Oh, you’ve changed your hair ….

I have just made a big change to my hair (and I am being vague, for privacy reasons). I am delighted, but reactions have been odd. People either make no comment at all, or just say “oh, you’ve changed your hair” and leave it at that. Only a few people have made positive comments, I work in a large organisation and see many people outside of work

So can I conclude I’ve made a huge mistake?????

Ok, many people can't see beyond the end of the their own nose and haven't noticed.

Some people don't like it.

Some people like it but don't want to make personal remarks.

Some people like it, admire your bravery but are jealous and don't want to acknowledge it.

Some people are ignorant idiots.

Just concern yourself with the opinions of people who really matter (those you love/respect and love/respect you back)and feck the rest of them.

I had this when I went very blonde for me. I’m dark haired naturally with brown eyes. Nobody said ‘wow I love your hair’, just ‘you’ve had your hair done’ or it wasn’t mentioned at all.

I took it that people didn’t think it suited me and it wasn’t long before I dyed it dark again, coward that I am 😄

Do you like it? That’s the main thing.

Sidebeforeself · 07/05/2025 20:53

I think a lot of people just dont care about other peoples hair!

This is how I’m interpreting the reaction. Yes, I do like it, but all this has put me off! I usually get positive comments when I make changes …

People are weird. Remember that

If I don’t like someones new hair i don’t mention it , id rather not say anything than lie .
Anyway if you like it that’s all that matters .

LoveBluey · 07/05/2025 22:39

Same, if I don’t have something nice to say I’d just not say anything at all.

Someone I know has had bright pink and then bright red hair recently and I haven’t liked either - just because I don’t think they suit her skin tone rather than me not liking the bright colours in general on other people. So I just don’t mention it even though it’s very obviously a big change.
If its a bit more subtle than that people may just not have noticed.

“I have just made a big change to my hair (and I am being vague, for privacy reasons).

I am delighted.” This is all that matters. 😁

Sometimes it is a shock to other people because you have looked a certain way for all the time they have known you. This doesn’t mean they don’t like it, maybe you just don’t look like they are used to you looking, and they don’t know how to articulate that so they say nothing.

TweetingHurricane · 07/05/2025 22:49

Yours is the only opinion that matters, it’s you who looks at yourself in the mirror. Don’t change it just because people aren’t admiring it

almostbloody50 · 07/05/2025 22:55

I went from blonde to dark brown and not one person commented until a few days later a good friend said have you got different makeup on!!

Howdoesithappenlikethis · 07/05/2025 23:00

Personally if I notice someone has changed something about themselves and I like it I'll comment to that affect, if I don't like it I'll probably act as though I didn't notice. I'm unsure how many other people think like me though.

I think like you, hence my post!

I tend to take it that an indifferent reaction to a haircut or item of clothing that you'd expect people to react to means they don't like it, but I also don't care because what matters is that I like it!

Definitely happened a few times, not with hair but with clothes as I like quite unusual stuff and have a few items people comment on (positively) a lot but also some I kind of expected people to say something but they never have.
