Posh lunch on Friday . What to wear … it’s a first for me!
i
Im going to an art auction/ lunch/ fundraiser on Friday and I’m nervous!
im 50 and I’ve never been to one before.
I don’t know many people there but the people I do know are warm and welcoming people f not seriously wealthy and kind of posh!!!
what will I wear ? Im size 14, 5’7, wavy dark brown hair to mid chest area.
Im also single/ divorced and open to a new relationship and there will be some lovely men there I’m told so I need some tips for confidence !
Thanks

Are you a dress or separates kind of person?
Heels or need flats?
Busty or flat chested?
What’s the weather prediction for your area that day? It’s would be pointless suggesting something strappy if it’s going to be 8 degrees, or something with a jacket if it’s going to be 22 degrees.

I am also clueless btw, but wanted to bump & definitely felt more info was needed.

Other than clearly inappropriate formal wear - what are the nicest / best quality / most expensive / simplest things in your wardrobe?

And what do you look and feel best in - separates or a dress?

Really, if you’re using the occasion as a matchmaking opportunity, I’d focus on hair, skin, flattering jewellery and perfume.

heldinadream · 07/05/2025 16:18

All of the above, plus what's the budget?

ANagsHead · 07/05/2025 16:34

It’s the day after tomorrow, @heldinadream! I assume the OP will be shopping her wardrobe.

minnienono · 07/05/2025 16:42

City, town or rural? North or south?

if London id wear smart trousers and a blouse or a dress but not too over the top because people don’t dress up as much. If Manchester for instance it would wear a smart outfit. Rurally country casual might fit the bill more. Last fundraiser/auction thing i went too check shirts seemed to be popular with cords, go figure?

@resuss These are Boden. Just right I think. Decent casual bag and jacket if needed.

Yes I have a navy and white Boden jersey dress which is pretty. It’s in a Dublin bar/ restaurant in a v wealthy suburb. I have flat white sandals( those Hermes dupes) and a
mini lily in navy. Thoughts?

Why not? Sounds ok to me. I’m not a huge fan of jersey (prefer cotton poplin) but I think navy and white is classic.

olivelime · 07/05/2025 19:51

Sounds like a fun day OP! I would have said a long flowery dress with a blazer and nice jewellery.

deeahgwitch · 07/05/2025 19:54

Could you get your make up done beforehand and get a blow dry @resuss
I’ve been to a few of those charity lunches in Dublin hence suggesting getting hair
and make up done.
Completely aside but I’m wondering what is considered a wealthy Dublin suburb. Smile
