Summer cover up dress with very specific requirements!

Please help! I’m looking for a summer dress for my 80 yr old mum who isn’t very mobile. She can’t lift her arms to get into an overhead dress hence the first requirement below. We’re going on holiday soon so looking for something fairly stylish that she can chuck on to go to the restaurant or sit by the pool while still being comfortable.

It needs to be:

  1. buttoned the whole way down the front
  2. made of cotton or linen. Blends are ok & so is viscose but no polyester or jersey
  3. not pattered
  4. ideal colour would be blue, pink, seagreen or navy (nothing black or too lurid)
  5. sleeves of some sort - short or elbow length ideally
  6. not maxi length. She is only 5 foot!
  7. flexible on neckline but not plunging or deep V
  8. budget up to £150

White stuff dresses - look at the Rua style. Long and short sleeve available.

Primark also offer an adaptive clothing range https://www.primark.com/en-gb/a/inspiration/fashion-trends/adaptive-clothing-guide

Would a wrap dress be a suitable dress for her?

Ultravox · 06/05/2025 21:52

Fantastic suggestions already - thanks! I knew you wouldn’t let me down 😍

LOVE the NRBY stuff. No idea how I missed that on the JL website. I think she’d find the striped one a bit Andy Pandy but the sea green one is gorgeous. It’s a clear front runner.

Yes! No idea why I didn’t think of a wrap dress. She would be able to get that on but again not too deep a neckline.

dress here in a nice plain colour. Designed for people with low or no mobility

Thank you so much - I’d never heard of this brand and some of the clothing look excellent for low mobility. Lovely sea green dress in this one as well.

The M&Co & Roman shirt dresses are good budget options too. Thanks!

@Ultravoxgood luck with your hunt. Staying in clothes you like and independent / semi-independent for as long as possible can be so important.

Would this be too deep a V neck?

Very expensive for what it is.

Patra is another brand that probably has something suitable. Here is one but there are more (I've brought nightwear from them and its been good quality)
