Swimsuit help

I have a tricky swimsuit problem.

I have a colostomy, which means I have a pouch the size of a CD attached to the lower left hand side of my tummy. The actual hole (stoma) is just below my natural waist and has a little bump above it, meaning the bag is not entirely flush with my body.

In the long term there will be alternative for me to use while swimming but not yet. I thought I wouldn't be able to swim at all this summer due to other treatment but things have now changed and I can swim. And I go on holiday in ten days' time.

So I need a swimsuit which disguises the bump and the wrinkle of the bag. Obviously "colostomy swimsuits" are available but they are laughably vile. I reckon I need something ruched over the tummy or with some detail to distract the eye from the bump.

I don't have a very good figure (deffo look far better in a dress). Huge thighs, dodgy knees, no ankles and no muscle tone to speak of due to illness. I'm a size 10-12 on top and 12-14 over the bum. Short, at 5' 2 1/2. I'm also very fair skinned with no chance of tanned legs (although will be shopping for fake tan).

As I am so fair, black looks a bit severe. I've had a quick look on-line and all the ruched ones I have found so far are black.

Has anybody any suggestions?

Land's End has a good variety of ruched ones but are £££

MrsBadger · 18/05/2008 22:15

red, will draw eye to bust

MrsBadger · 18/05/2008 22:18

ah, my bad - I had seen these Land's End ones but they have a 'slimming' undersuit so will be too tight

guess tankini no good in case the top rides up

good ruching though
