Looking for a whole new summer wardrobe

And I don’t know where to start. Thanks to MJ I’ve lost almost 5 stone, none of my summer stuff fits or looks nice. I came to the realisation that everything I previously owned was bought because it covered up the worst parts of me and not because I really liked it.
I’ve looked on a few websites but drawn a blank. I don’t know what I like and I’m having decision paralysis!!
I’m going on holiday in 2 weeks and have literally no clothes or swimwear 😭
Has anyone bought anything recently that they love?
No strapless or totally sleeveless, my upper arms are still not something I want to be exposing to people other than when I’m swimming! And I prefer my stomach to be covered because it’s covered in stretch marks so I won’t be buying anything cropped…
But please feel free to share anything you’ve bought recently for the sunnier weather - even if I don’t buy anything shared it might help with some inspiration.
Oh, and I don’t have time to get a personal shopper, the nearest JL is an hour away from here and I’ve got plans/working away for the next 2 weekends!

I’ve recently bought some lovely dresses in Asda, shorts in M&S, Zara vest tops and skirts from primark.
I’ve kept it all plain but pretty colours, all can be worn together so the cost was kept down

Thank you. I think I want to get some shorts too which I don’t usually wear - maybe not a good idea to start looking for something I don’t usually wear when I have no clue what style I want 😂

M&S seem to be having a moment - it is a shame their website is not accepting orders currently! If you have a large store I would head there.

Anyway - I have the following on my list for this year:
co-ord shirt and shorts - M&S have some great mix and match sets like This .

cos - I love their dresses thinking about

I would suggest using Pinterest and just going through and pinning a few outfits you like the look of. Doesn't have to be something you'd buy, just to give you an idea of styles and shapes you like. Then go online and find pieces that approximate the outfits you like.

I know if I suddenly lost five stone I would want to wear long floaty Joe Browns dresses 😂 My inner hippy knows they don't look good at my size. Congrats - I'm very tempted to do MJ myself.

Ah my link won't post

fiorentina · 03/05/2025 09:15

Rather than rush off and buy lots I’d have a look at Pinterest at outfit styles you like, sort a list od items you’d like and then find those. Eg long midi dress, shorts, tops, skirts etc

I agree M&S a great place to start for good basics and then maybe accessories and some other bits elsewhere. Vinted is also good if you’re still changing shape.

Why can’t you order on the Mark’s website?! We’ve got a small one near work that would be perfect for ordering to for collection but there’s also a pretty big one nearby. I agree the last few times I’ve been in I’ve seen a few things that I liked.
pintrest is a good idea, never really got on with it before but worth another try.

And I love a floaty dress, Joe browns isn’t my style, too boho for me, but I could definitely do with a couple. Also good for work when it gets warm.

Marks had a cyber attack so the website ordering is currently suspended.

I needed some new linen trousers and ordered from H&M, £17.99 and brilliant (the Marks ones are £27.99 this year and I actually like the H&M better!). I also got a couple of floaty dresses and some linen tops (albeit sleeveless).

Uniqlo floaty dresses (I think they call them Airism) are great for holidays.

TheRavenKingsDaughter · 03/05/2025 10:29

No size or budget guide? 😄

Anyway - while you’re getting used to your new self you could probably buy everything you need for your holiday and the rest of summer from Cos:

Here’s their linen edit

Obviously you could add floral and flouncy extras from elsewhere.

Congratulations on your weight loss op!

New Look have some lovely dresses at the moment in viscose, and with a very short sleeve and square neckline (milkmaid style). I bought two and I’m impressed with them.

I’m 3 stone overweight and feel I look terrible in everything and hate Summer as I feel so exposed, but I actually feel vaguely sexy and a have an ounce of confidence in these dresses.
