Cover up for Halterneck dress

I’m a bridesmaid (or whatever the older, married equivalent is) for my lovely friend in September. I’m going to be wearing a sage green halterneck dress but really hate my arms (I have lipoedema so despite trying to tone them they are quite flappy). Are there any good cover up options which won’t ruin the look and shape of the dress? I’m so utterly useless at this kind of thing. I’ve lost a lot of weight this year and just want to look and feel lovely. I’m a size 14 (age 40)

thanks so much!

the option above is lovely but if you wanted something with a print you could look at the short one hundred stars kimono.

Thanks @Pottingup would you suggest the white one? Or a contrasting colour?

@mumonthehill thank you! I like the idea of a kimono shape but would have to be plain as brides dress quite busy.

Is it set in stone that that is the dress you will wear? Because tbh I don't really see the point of buying any dress and then looking for something to cover up a specific feature of the dress- here the fact it's a halterneck.

No, not really and certainly not bits of nylon from places like Light in a Box.

So far as One Hundred Stars kimonos, they're nice enough but I think it would look odd over that style of dress and very odd that you keep it on all day.

Thanks @IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle you’re right I know. I think she (and other bridesmaids) are pretty set on them but to be fair there are other dresses in same material from this company so maybe I could find one with sleeves.. aghhh

I don't love the tops of my arms but I like them a lot better with a bit of fake tan on. Are you pale? Do you ever wear it?

I also have lipoedema but not as much in my arms.

TinglyandCurious · 03/05/2025 09:32

@NeverTalksToStrangers2 I am very pale but all over so wouldn’t dare fake tan really. Thanks for the thought.

I found this in same colour/material which I might see if she’s consider as covers up enough arms that I wouldn’t need to worry about cover ups etc.

There are several options

I like the sleeves and shape of this one

Not a fan of fake tan

That's a much better idea than cover ups and fake tan.

@IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle thanks! They are all nice aren’t they.

Personally I wanted this 🤩

Honestly I don't understand why. Fake tan applied everywhere visible can look great. Doesn't have to be orange or particularly dark. I don't bare my arms without it. Takes half a stone off, easily.

Yes there are people who take it to extremes. But for a healthy glow that I could never achieve naturally it's great. I also don't wear a lot of makeup but I look so much better with it than without it.

TinglyandCurious · 03/05/2025 09:59

@NeverTalksToStrangers2 I’m sure you’re right, it’s my lack of bravery in doing it properly I guess.

Go for it!

I agree with some others who have posted. A halter neck is not the dress to go for. You will look better and no doubt feel better in a dress with sleeves.
