How to disguise grey regrowth between colours?

My natural hair is brown with a lot of grey/white, especially at the front. I have it dyed brown with ash blonde highlights in an attempt to disguise the regrowth, but without fail I have noticeable white roots at the front and top of my head within 2-3 weeks of a colour. In addition, my blonde seems to go a bit brassy over time. My usual solution is to use permanent light ash brown root touch up dye in between salon visits and wait it out until the next hairdresser visit. I sometimes use root powders or sprays too, but don’t love them. None of these options works very well!

I am planning to try grey blending next time I can get an appointment, but in the meantime I am wondering if it might be worth trying a toner or a purple shampoo to tone down the brassiness of my highlights and hopefully disguise the contrast between the regrowth and dyed hair, while letting my grey grow out a bit for the grey blending appointment. Any thoughts? Will this work??

I've used the spray root touch ups. Tried L'Oréal and Boots and Clairol and all the rest really and they were pretty good.

I sprayed left on for 5 minutes or so and brushed through.

Took a while to find the best shade but lots better than I thought they would be
