Fisherman sandals yes or no…

So am 50s and constantly fighting myself so as not to look frumpy and old 🤣what do we think of these. I did see them in white which might take some of the clomp factor away… I know some of you love the style of DMs and dresses but it’s just not me. I’m aiming for “old money French chic” - aiming for lol

Ooh the toast ones are lovely - and a lovely price lol!! I found some in Zara that are quite nice. I’m not sure. They are a love/hate item for sure !

No. They look grungy and infantile.

Go for tan flat sandals with fine or scalloped straps and gold hardware. Just as comfortable but more refined, feminine, elevated, modern.

skirtingcurtain · 03/05/2025 10:49

I like them, always have. Sometimes I want my feet out but toes covered. Still using a pair from Zara from 2/3 yrs ago

Justkoko · 03/05/2025 12:49

And is a chunky sole or more delicate/lighter sole more timeless? I know chunky sandals are still very 'in'.

FuzzikinsPompombum · 03/05/2025 12:57

Someone on a thread here a while ago described them as what the BFG wore and that’s all I can think of now.

they do seem to be a love them or hate them thing - so if you love them, go for it!

Ygfrhj · 03/05/2025 13:04

Love them, tried to find some a few years ago but I'm short with big feet and they don't do me any favours. Now they're a bit everywhere...

tinyspiny · 03/05/2025 14:04

Well I’m late 50s and go for comfort over style most days but I think they are absolutely hideous .

single sole and narrower profile is more classic.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 03/05/2025 15:12

I’ve got Zara ones, slightly chunky sole.
very comfy

latetothefisting · 03/05/2025 15:27

tbh given they've been 'on trend' for at least 3 years I wouldn't bother spending much on them if you don't love them, they're already coming to the end of their popularity, there's no point getting a pair just as they are on the verge of becoming outdated.

Because they've been SO ubiquitous they'll be like the 'white trainer' of 2021 or uniqlo crossbody bag 2023 - perfectly unobjectionable items that of course you can continue to wear if you want (from someone who still has all three), but that are very much a trend that can be very specifically dated to within a year, and has peaked and gone.

Obviously if you like them anyway get a pair! But if you're on the fence, it's a bit pointless, you'll just have shoes that you're not that keen on and aren't even 'in' anymore.

skirtingcurtain · 03/05/2025 15:29

They really aren't that ubiquitous. Nothing like the Uniqlo bag that i see multiples of daily.

skirtingcurtain · 03/05/2025 15:32

you will always find them every year but as I said less chunky ones add more classic. Russell and Bromley, European shoe shops have carried them for decades. i've

EspanaPorfavor · 03/05/2025 15:34

I love them! Im 37, live in a warm climate, quite into style and fashion… in tan definitely though. Or possibly black but not white.

RedRiverShore5 · 03/05/2025 15:39

I have the Josef Seibel Rosalie ones, there are several slightly different styles and colours, they are very comfortable.

stickybear · 03/05/2025 15:45

I can't see the image but I have some from White Stuff that I got last year, I love them and have had loads of wear out of them. They are very clompy though! And they come up pretty big

Chewbecca · 03/05/2025 15:46

I like them but I don't think they fit the french chic vibe terribly well.

VivIsBlonde · 03/05/2025 20:20

TheRavenKingsDaughter · 02/05/2025 21:31

@VivIsBlonde why would anyone who doesn’t know what fishermen’s sandals are (and they’ve been around for a good few years) feel the need to advise the OP on their wearability?

I think they look great on other people (and the person’s age really is irrelevant here) but for myself there are other things I prefer. They seem both practical and stylish. And I’d say if they don’t work with your clothes - it may be the clothes that are somehow no longer of the moment. 😄

I’ve asked for a photo that’s all!

I don’t know what they are 🤣

Trovindia · 03/05/2025 22:55

I think they are horrible, but I imagine they are very comfy.

Gettingbysomehow · 03/05/2025 23:09

I think they are hideous quite honestly.

I know what they are but was also expecting to see a specific picture. Some are nice and some are not.
