Discoloured finger nails, should I give up on polish?

I like to polish my nails but I do give it a rest also. They have now changed from being clear and healthy to looking discoloured and flaking.

They don't look good now without polish at all. Should I just keep polishing them to cover it up. I never have gels or acrylics, I just do my own.

Can bare nails look good? When I do have them bare I always put a base coat on to make them look shiny.

Essie do a range called TLC - I think it stands for true love and colour
it's a range of fairly pale/neutral colours that is designed to help heal/repair the condition of your nails. You wear it without a basecoat.
My nails got into really poor condition from wearing shellac for a few years - it took a while, but over time you could see a line across my nails where the healthy nail started.

something I've been wearing for the last three months that I attribute my significantly stronger (after all the work and patience with TLC above, they went a bit weak and flaky again) nails to is Orly rubberised base coat.
