Holiday wear for arm-hater

Hello! So I hate my arms. I’m a normal weight, tall but just have always struggled with what I perceive as ‘fat’ upper arms. Slightly broad shouldered and large boobs. Think DD, but trousers usually a 12. Heading on hols in July and just wondering what type of styles work? South of France so will be some days by pool, some walking about exploring. I also like to not have anything tight across my tummy: not necessarily overweight, but definitely not toned, and 2 csections has given me the dreaded ‘pouch’! So I either like something fully supportive to hold in, or something v loose! Thanks all! X

I will say, that if you really want the option of covering your arms e.g. you've had enough sun exposure for the day, then a loose linen shirt worn over your vest looks chic and suits your body shape and shoulders.

You are all really kind. And honestly you are probably right on the self confidence front (as as such my warped view thinks that the kindness is just that, and in reality I look a bit like a tall boxy man! Probably doesn’t help that my father told me I look like a rugby player when I was about 15 but that’s another story for another day!). I’ve been to M&S and Boux Avenue sooo many times for a correctly fitting bra and honestly they always end up apologising as I must be a really funny size and I never leave with anything (and one boob larger than other to the point where they aren’t the same cup size apparently). So I’ve just been surviving in Tesco or Sainsbury’s stuff for most of my life (I’m 38). But you’ve inspired me to try again as it’s been about two years since my last attempt! That will be my mission for this week and I’ll report back on the bra front, and maybe show you all a few bits as I buy them for your honest critique x

Is there a bravissimo anywhere near you? They may do a better fitting, m&s can be hit and miss

SeanMean · 11/05/2025 13:11

Bravissimo are excellent, the only place I go.

I don’t like my upper arms either OP so for my holiday I’ve gone for a vest top, shorts and a light weight linen style shirt that I can wear open. Birkenstocks, rattan bag and a hat.

You look great, I have this figure broad shoulders but I'm petite too with a full bust, so tops are my hardest thing to get right, in summer I wear vest tops like you have on, but not the thin straps as it can make the shoulders look bigger, and I sometimes wear a cropped cotton or linen shirt over but not all the time,

Oh my goodness your arms look amazing. Please stop with the self-hate and wear lovely light dresses and vest tops.
