Eyeliner that actually stays put - not waterproof!

All of my eyeliners are waterproof, if I try them on the back of my hand they would still be there the next day if I didn't scrub them off. I can't wear mascara daily and have crappy sparse lashes so I need some sort of emphasis on my upper eyeine.

However I'm having trouble with it bleeding/transferring. I think my eyelids might be quite oily, and they've become more hooded as I age so sometimes the whole line doubles up and prints itself halfway up my lid!

My skin is quite dry so I try to use non-matt foundation/cc/powder, I like the look but it seems that the oils in them help the eyeliner to bleed down from my outer eye. I do use All Nighter which I think is quite matt but it makes no difference.

What can I use? Can you recommend an eyeliner that won't budge or maybe a primer that'll keep it in place?

I wish I knew! I have the same problem and would love to know if there's an answer.

The Eyeko eyeliner pens are very good, and I rate the Stila pencils.

lindyloo57 · 24/04/2025 12:54

Sorry I have tried both which are mentioned above and they transfer on me, the best one for me is a hourglass one, but its better in winter, in summer a little smudge but the best of the rest for me, I put a little brown shadow over the top to help with staying power I must have very oily eye lids.

I had the same issue so got a semipermanent eyeliner tattoo. Love it.

Kat Von D tattoo eyeliner is absolutely perfect. It’s not waterproof but it is definitely smudge proof, lasts all day and easily comes off with micellar water etc

IReallyLoveItHere · 24/04/2025 15:45

Thanks all I will go and read their reviews.

I have thought about tattooing, it might be the way to go tbh, although I imagine it hurts!

I remember I used to use a black eyeshadow with a thin wet brush when I was a teen, I wonder if that might be better too. Easy enough to try.

it didn't hurt really. I also had my eyebrows and lips done, now the lips were indeed stinging a bit, but eyeliner was fine.

Bobbi Brown gel liner doesn't budge however it's a bit of a faff as you have to paint it on with a brush. Also use the end of the brush to take a bit out and put it on the back of your hand whilst you apply (and close the lid). Otherwise if you do it straight from the pot it will dry out.

marshmallowfinder · 24/04/2025 15:52

I love Avon glimmerstick eyeliner in Cosmic Brown. It stays put on me, hopefully would be good on others!

idolikealiein · 24/04/2025 16:00

I have this problem, however I appear to have solved it by applying loose powder over the liner with the pointy end of one of those triangular face puffs.

isthismylifenow · 24/04/2025 16:02

Are you tightlining on the upper lid?

I have tired numerous pencils and the one I have stuck with as the very best for this is cheap and cheerful Essence. The one you twist, not the one you sharpen.

I have recommended it before and a prev poster said you can get the brand there (Wilkos maybe?). Their mascara is great too and also so reasonable.

I'm not in the UK so maybe someone else can recommend where to buy. If you can't find Essence, try Catrice as they are sister companies so similar products.

Ha, I used to recommend Essence mascara when Wilko was still going!

The Stila stay all day lasts about 5 hours on me, lovely shades though.

It looks like you can get it on Amazon.

I'm quite surprised it's not more available in the UK, they have a really nice range for basics.

I’ve taken an alternative approach and now use gold eye liner (Victoria Beckham’s) instead. If/when it migrates a little, it looks like it’s meant to be like that. 🤗

notapizzaeater · 24/04/2025 17:49

I melt all eyeliner so I had mine tattooed on - when I go ‘out out’ I find Tropic eyeliner stays put

LoafofSellotape · 24/04/2025 17:52

Ayu eyeliner pen, doesn't shift even on the water line and good for sensitive eyes.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 24/04/2025 18:31

I use black eyeshadow with a very thin eyeliner brush

IReallyLoveItHere · 03/05/2025 12:46

Just nipping back to say I bought a few cheaper ones to try and the Barry M is incredible.

I ended up gardening yesterday in blazing sun and had to spray standard standard screen on my face because its all I had to hand. It didn't budge at all.
