Cleaning a pale coloured suede skirt

In my infinite wisdom (ok, stupidity: in my infinite stupidity), I bought a (beautiful) pale green suede skirt from Whistles. How TAF do I keep the thing clean? I’ve worn it once and there’s a small mark on it already. How do I get that off? Any tips on cleaning pale coloured suede gratefully received! Can I/should I spray it with protector as well, like shoes? I have quite a few ‘normal’ leather skirts and trousers but I did not think through the suede thing, lol..

iI’m afraid I can’t help much on cleaning aspect, strangely I find that water wipes from baby section are gentle but magically seem to get most stains out. If not could you get it dry cleaned? The skirt sounds beautiful! Can I ask where it’s from?

What does the care label say ? I have a suede belt that got milk on it . It went crunchy and badly stained - I used saddle soap and a toothbrush - it’s less stained and no longer crunchy but I wouldn’t advise you do that with your skirt.

You can get a suede block thing to brush the nap and it often helps with stain...

I've obly used on shoes though.

I would use a suede protector spray too

A specialist dry cleaner will be the best bet.

However, and at home, you can steam is regularly with with a clothes steamer or over the nozzle of a kettle. Use with a suede sponge to remove any dirt. Also, buy a shoe brush, a two sided one with soft bristles on one side, rubber bristles on the other. Use this to brush off any dirt/dust/marks. Or separate ones like this. Even a variety of toothbrushes will do. Always use dry, not damp.

You can also Scotch Guard the skirt (although personally, I would not). Store in the wardrobe, keep in a clear plastic hanging bag. If using a clip hanger, put padding between the skirt and clips to stop it getting an indentation.

Once you know how to take care of it, it will be come an easy routine that takes less than five minutes.

It’s a Whistles one (below if I have copied it right). Still available I think, I got it a few weeks ago in a moment of madness! It’s beautiful, but seriously, what was I thinking, lol. Steaming it is a genius idea, I have a great steamer. I have a suede brush etc but they are useless. Taking a trip to my local dry cleaners soon I think!

Thank you. Beautiful skirt and I can see why you are keen to make sure there aren’t any marks on it at that price!
enjoy wearing it, it’s lovely

I have no idea about suede clothing but micellar water works a treat on cleaning suede shoes!

Dry cleaning suede is really expensive!

Purplecatshopaholic · 26/04/2025 21:02

I have a feeling this is going to be a very expensive investment @canyon2000!
