Why does my hair look like this and what can I do?

I have very straight hair and hardly ever use heat on it. I wash my hair every other day and let it dry naturally. Why do I have so many short and sticking up hairs? Is it breakage or new growth? Can I tame it or prevent it?

Do you notice hair falling out or breaking off more than usual, when you wash it or brush it?

If you don’t , then it could be new growth. I’m no expert and my only experience is my own of having dry, brittle hair that breaks off and at times sheds. Recently been diagnosed with folate related anaemia and am half way through 4 months of folic acid, and have noticed much less shedding already. Is your hair dry, thin (doesn’t look it), brittle and what is your gut feeling as to whether it’s most likely new growth or breakage?

Do you put your hair in clips or a ponytail? It could be that causing breakages.

My hair also looks like this and I have the same query about mine! I wonder if it is a bit of both, I don't put my hair up that often but do use straighteners quickly most mornings (hair is mostly straight just to remove kinks).

I don’t think it’s particularly dry but it is thin. Maybe I need to try a supplement. Thank you.

It is down the majority of the time, a low ponytail on occasion so I don’t think it corresponds with hair tie position?

That’s new growth. Your hair does naturally shed from time to time and it’s likely just new growth after that

I tried a bit of hairspray on my hand and patted them down

Spray hairspray on your brush and then brush it through

I always have loads of baby hairs poking out like that. I use clear mascara / eyebrow gel to brush them down.
