Ibiza clubs as a 40+ size 16

I'm in desperate need of some help. I'm off to Ibiza for the first time in my life and will be heading to a number of the big clubs. What on earth do I wear?! I've heard it's more casual than expected and that the key is to be comfortable. I'm mid 40s and a uk size 16. My usual summer style are maxi or midi dresses but these are more M&S and wouldn't work at all. Any ideas??

I hope you have a lot of fun OP :)

I'm the same age and size as you, would do denim shorts and a nice cami top, with trainers. Pretty much the same as what I wore when I went age 16!

Free People could probably provide everything you’ll want - though it’ll take weeks to work through the site:

Denim cutoffs and a Bardot top, flipflops or trainers. What are your friends wearing?

BuzzYourGirlfriendWoof · 16/04/2025 12:36

I spent ages planning outfits last year when I went, and honestly wished I hadn’t given it so much thought 🫣😂 I’m 40 too, but do follow fashion and particularly love the 90s style. I think denim shorts, little top and some fun jewellery. I’ll probably get shot down for this, but Shein do really good fun clothes that fit the bill for tops.

The youth barely had any clothes on; I’m not a prude at all, but what they wear is so skimpy, you can pretty much see everything. Think what podium dancers usually wear….except everyone’s wearing it 😳

Reidwood · 16/04/2025 12:44

Your podium is above them “young pretenders”..show your true style n class as a confident woman..dnt worry abt your age👍🏿

I went in my 50's, denim shorts, vaguely sparkly tops. Trainers. I over thought it far too much! Have a great time x

Do you know which places in particular you’ll be going to? Have you booked tables/areas? Ibiza has changed a bit in the last 5 years and some places can be a bit flashy/poserish and may have a ‘door policy.’

MammaTo · 16/04/2025 12:54

I think it all depends on what you’re comfortable with and whether you’re happy to dress up/stand out if the rest of the group are.

In Ibiza I like to go for quite a glam/boho vibe and most of my group would dress up. River island has a gorgeous sequin maxi dress that I thought would be perfect for Ibiza, but it depends what your comfortable in.

scubaprincess · 16/04/2025 13:55

Thanks for all the comments and I'm actually really grateful for all the 'be yourself' comments! I think denim shorts are a great idea as I'm comfortable wearing them. So maybe all I need are some new tops and I'll feel good to go.

seconding River island for some cute tops/ coverup/ beach dresses which I wished I had a life glamorous enough to need. But you do!

Woodburnerisout · 16/04/2025 18:56

Yes despite me saying denim shorts, some of the clubs are very upmarket and will have a dress code.

sommerjade · 16/04/2025 22:03

Don't wear flip flops as sadly they’re no longer allowed in a lot of clubs… I used to dance all night in them lol!!

Kilroyonly · 16/04/2025 22:09

Your clothes size is so irrelevant l, just wear whatever fits you & you feel comfortable in. You’ll look fab in whatever you choose I’m sure & most importantly have a great time xx
