DS is getting married in August. Church wedding, quite traditional/conservative. I’m 55, 5’8, size 14 (mainly because of meno belly). There’s an English country dance in the evening so I need to be able to move! Colouring wise I’m an autumn I think? Can’t wear really bright colours but I don’t want to be fading into the background either. Prefer natural fibres… I’m thinking silk? I love other people in trousers or jumpsuits but would like a dress for myself. Would love some suggestions. Budget is around £500.

It’s great that you’ve got plenty of time. You can of course spend weeks and weeks browsing Net-a-Porter, Browns, etc. But just because I’ve seen them today (and admire both brands) and think they’d be splendid for your purposes:

Wiggy Kit dress Really superior cotton that looks like silk.

Lisou dress Really superior jersey that is silk. Maybe not ideal for dancing though.

Thanks so much! These are lovely but… I should have said, I think I’d prefer a plain rather than patterned fabric. And probably not a maxi as I prefer something a bit shorter (but not shorter than knee length).

Sure! You’ll find countless plain dresses on the multi-brand sites I mentioned above.
