Socks and trainers for the over 50's

I didn't want to hijack the other socks thread. And apologies if this has been asked before. I did search but couldn't find a similar thread.

For those of you over 50. What socks are you wearing with your trainers for the gym? I'm in need of new socks. I've had several pairs of short sports socks (invisible if you like) but wonder what I should replace them with. I know I know. Socks are socks. But can I get away with the ankle socks (that sit just above the trainer) or the higher socks? Will I look like I'm trying to hard.

Really can't believe I'm asking🙈 😂

I wear ankle socks or mid ankle, which are harder to find but a good alternative to the high length.

I can't stand trainer socks now, bare ankles feel old fashioned. I bet the young folk will be going back to ankle socks soon enough when we all turn up in higher socks!

Ankle socks here

Just wear what you are comfortable with. I am 70 and wear yoga socks with my trainers .

Yeah that's it exactly, the bare ankles suddenly feels old. Funny isn't it how something as simple as socks can go 'out of style'

If it's warm I wear trainers socks, if it's cold I wear longer socks. I am over 50 so fashion/style/etc bends to my will and my needs, and not the other way round 😁

I wasn’t aware that being over 50 meant I had to wear special types of socks and trainers Hmm

Baconsarnie · 11/04/2025 11:51

Am having the same problem OP! I’ve bought some short ankle socks, but I have a drawer full of semi invisible trainer socks that feel wrong now!

dementedpixie · 11/04/2025 11:52

I wear this style of sock from matalan both in and out of the gym. I like airflow round my ankles and wear cropped leggings too

I still wear trainer socks I don’t care if that’s really not in style. My ankles are one of the few good parts of me that I want to show off. Longer socks make my legs look chunky despite being slim ? I would rather be unfashionable than wear something unflattering for my body shape

SirChenjins · 11/04/2025 13:03

Trainer socks with skinny jeans (I usually turn up the ends a tiny bit) or longer sports socks if I'm wear wide legged trousers to keep my legs warm.

henlake7 · 11/04/2025 13:20

Ive always worn sports socks from Primark (longer crew style ones) as I hate naked ankles.
But I dont pull them right up....scrunched only!

Blackbird84 · 13/04/2025 18:53

Trainer socks until they wear out. I’ll reconsider at that point (but I have a lot of them).

Hexxee have lots of choice and good functionality. Fun colours and patterns. Tk max often has a good selection too.
