A black dress suitable for a funeral

I'm looking for a black dress suitable for my daughters funeral at the end of the month. I'm 5 foot 2 and a half inches and I'm currently on a weightloss journey so started off as size 16/18 but been losing weight every week so I could be smaller than that by then. I've not got a big budget so roughly I could pay around £35-£40 for the dress as I am going to need to buy shoes to go with it aswell as I don't have anything like that so if anyone can help me find some shoes to go with a dress aswell I would be extremely grateful.
Many Thanks to any of you that take this time for me.

Hi OP, I’m so very sorry to hear that you need a dress for your daughter’s funeral. Would something like this suit you? It’s within your price range and the weather should be warm enough at the end of the month.

It could do I'm only short though so I'm worried it might be a bit too long and drag on the floor I think even a midi would be like a maxi on me.

So sorry for your loss OP.

This is petite and in the sale which would allow you to get shoes and accessories too.

Ah Op, I feel so sad that you are going to your daughter's funeral. I hope you select a dress that you feel is suitable from those people who have put pictures up. I wish you all the best at such a sad time.

That one could actually work then does it not look a bit "night out" though? I really haven't a clue when it comes to all this as I've never had to bury my child before.

@Anon543210 my heart aches for you that you have to do this. With regard to the dress, I think it could be dressed down - it’s very simple in style. Without heels I think it would look fine - but equally happy to keep looking for you. Sending you much love.

I think it looks ideal - smart, tasteful, elegant and easy to wear, so you won’t be bothered by it during your difficult day. I think it only looks ‘night out’ because of the model’s styling in the photos - you probably wouldn’t wear strappy high heels (although I’m not sure what shoes would go with it for a funeral; I tend to wear chelsea boots or DMs with everything).

I’m so sorry for your loss.

Hi all just want to say thank you all for taking the time to read my thread 1st of all and 2nd of all thank you all so much for all the help and suggestions.
Just a little update I ordered my dress with some boots from next the dress was £32 and the boots were on sale for £13 so not bad price wise and they were actually delivered this morning which was quick I will see if I can upload the photos of the dress and the boots to show u but please bear with as I'm a bit rubbish at this.

I just can't imagine what you're going through right now, I'm sure you will look beautiful. Really hope the day goes as well as can be hoped for under the circumstances xx

So very sorry for your loss OP. I recently bought a dress from Jolie Moi for a funeral. Am a similar size and height to you. It had 3/4 length sleeves and was nearly a midi length on me. You can get them from various shops.

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 14/04/2025 20:10

@Anon543210 I’m glad that you have found a dress and the boots will look lovely with it. I hope that the day goes as well as it can and that you get through it ok. Please keep posting if it will help in any way. Sending you much love at what must be an unbelievably difficult time.
