Just a gripe as there seems to be more and more of these reviews on Boots, JL websites for beauty items.

I immediately ignore them as would assume most people will be favourable to a product they've had for free. But they often skew the ratings upwards which is really annoying.

Where's your go-to website/place for proper testing and reviews of beauty products (apart from this forum on MN 😁)?

Yep, I find it really annoying too! I tend to use MakeUpAlley for independent product reviews. It tends to skew a bit American, but there's enough UK users that its worth taking a look.
