Does Color Wow really give that much volume?

Keep seeing the Ads on social media for the Color Wow mouse or the hair spray.
Anyone tried it?

My hair is flat, life less and thin.
Do I need to blow dry it whilst brushing it? Hard because I have long hair and it seems a little faffy!

I’m on the fence tbh. My hairdresser said she noticed the difference in my hair so it definitely does something (she wasn’t selling it so no incentive to say it!) but I’m not convinced it’s significantly better than cheaper ones. I’ve used raise the root and the carb one (not at the same time!) and also dreamcoat once a week.

Firenzeflower · 06/04/2025 20:31

No it’s the very worst product I’ve ever used.
The best is cheap Boots own mousse.

TidyDancer · 06/04/2025 20:33

Oh re the blow drying, I think they all need heat to activate but I use an AirStrait which it seems to work well with. I’ve never used double heat on it so not sure if there would be any difference if you blow dry then straighten.

Is there a reason why it’s so bad? Damage hair or just didn’t work?
Did you use the mousse or hair spray?

Thanks. Is this the mousse or hair spray?

Nope, it’s pretty meh. Defo not worth the money. I went back to my usual products - elnett mousse, and hairspray.

ReginaaPhalangee · 06/04/2025 21:01

It’s utter rubbish

It’s raise the root and the carb dream cocktail, neither of which are the mousse but both are meant to create volume. They do work, but I’m still not convinced they are significantly better than cheaper options. I do like most of their products for not having much fragrance. The hairspray is decent.

Pops1985 · 06/04/2025 21:05

I do like the mousse, it gives volume and then I use the style on steroids spray once styled to hold it. But maybe I’ve just bought into the hype…

sunshinesunday · 06/04/2025 21:11

I’ve found the hair spray to be brilliant, I use it and then blow dry my hair it’s stopped it’s becoming dry between when I get it coloured

tedibear · 06/04/2025 21:30

No it was a waste of money! I got sucked in with the hype and videos making it look amazing. It didn’t give me much volume but def more than usual what it did was make my hair crispy like it’s coated in lots of hairspray. I mentioned to hair dresser as they use those products. She said maybe I didn’t put enough in, she put tonnes on my hair and again it didn’t make much difference 😂 My hair is long and I wondered if it’s more for short hairstyles.

PlatinumBrunette · 06/04/2025 21:37

The root raising spray does work really well for me, but my hair’s short and very fine. The mousse is awful and just weighed it all down again. Waste of money that was. VO5 mousse forever!

Hattie1970abc · 06/04/2025 21:38

I’ve got thin flat hair too. I’ve got Colour wow and the cocktail too and they’re not bad but I find that Living Proof full volume and root lifting spray together with their full thickening blow dry cream to be more effective. I’ve also just ordered their shampoo and conditioner. I’ve also used Champo too and not impressed with their products either.

SwimmingFree · 06/04/2025 23:02

I’ve got the mousse, I loved the look of it from the online videos but it’s not an amazing product. If it was priced around £8 I’d buy it again but not worth £22 or whatever I paid!

id love a recommendation from anyone for a good alternative mousse for volume though.

SilvieBear · 06/04/2025 23:27

I’ve got the mousse & it’s shit.
Annoyed with myself that I fell for the hype.
I actually much prefer this (and it’s MILES cheaper)

i also like San McKnight products. He does a mousse (that does give my hair volume) ditto the volume spray. And a texturiser.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 07/04/2025 02:26

I had high hopes but it was a complete waste of money.

crystalmamma · 07/04/2025 03:49

I love it, I use the xl mousse after washing and root lift if it needs another boost before rewashing. I have fine shoulder length hair and have lost a lot recently due to illness but it makes me look like I have a full head of hair.

I style it with the round brush on the Dyson airwrap.

DoComeToMeKitty · 07/04/2025 09:37

I have never tried the mousse although I think I have a trial size from one of many beauty boxes - will give it a go.

I do have the spray which is good. I just use it in its own or sometimes after a bit of leave in conditioner and my hair looks fab.

I also have tye Aldi dupe (curls version) which I don't think has quite the same effect.
