Shoes to wear to work in the summer

I work in a secondary school and you have to wear closed footwear so no sandals or slingbacks. The boots and loafers I’ve been wearing so far will be too hot when I go back after Easter.

Are my options things like ballet pumps and Mary-Jane styles? Anything else?

I have seen these shoes that I like. They will definitely go with trousers but what about flowy dresses and skirts?

They'd be fine with skirts

I struggle with this too, I have to wear flat shoes but never think they look right with short skirts or short dresses.

I wear similar to these a lot, Next and Dune do versions too.

Why can't you wear sandals? I've taught in loads of schools and none have ever told staff what footwear they can wear?

Purplecatshopaholic · 06/04/2025 14:32

What sort of school dictates staff footwear? Genuine question, it’s none of their business surely.

Rollergirl11 · 06/04/2025 14:34

I don’t know @RaraRachael. They are pretty strict on attire. Blazers are compulsory too.

@Rollergirl11 teacher here too 👋. Love those shoes. Where did you spot them?

Rollergirl11 · 06/04/2025 15:47

@Suasthuasanuas John Lewis online. They’re the nicest flat shoes I’ve seen so far so am about to order them. Office have a sale on too at the minute and lots of flat shoes for really good prices on their website.

Watching with interest at similarly strict dress code setting! Clarks do some nice flats which I buy off eBay.

Two women in my office were Toms in the summer with skirts/dresses. They always look professional to me

I work in a school too. No sandals, backless, trainers, canvas shoes allowed. (Also dresses and skirts must be knee-length and shoulders covered. Trousers cannot be 'jeans style'. No denim apparel of any kind.) Suede loafers are my summer go to but there are some nice mary janes in summer colours around this year that I will probably get.

I have a smart pair of loafers that I wear to work in summer (office job), they’d be suitable for your job as well, I’d imagine

Ignore me! You literally said in your post you don’t want more loafers 😂😂😂 sorry!

I don’t find them too hot tbf though!

RaraRachael · 06/04/2025 17:55

We had an unwritten no denim rule but anything else was allowed

I did read of a school where all teachers had to wear tailored business suits. Obviously whoever made that rule had never been in an infant classroom 😅

I think we work for the same trust! I'm the same and struggling with shoes snd blazers!
