How to style wide leg jeans?

PandaEyes56 · 05/04/2025 20:05

I've just bought a pair of gorgeous wide leg jeans. They're a little long so trying to decide between altering them to wear with trainers or just wearing with heels.

No idea how to style them or what tops to wear with them. I'm a plus size apple shape (big tum) and have a very short torso and big boobs, so anything tucked looks ridiculous. I tend towards floaty blouse tops with more fitted jeans, but that doesn't look right with these.

I'm 39.

Help!!!!

Have you found any good ideas @PandaEyes56 ? I’ve just seen this thread and am interested. Similar shape to you, I am currently leaving my shirt untucked and also wearing shorter t shirts…

I'm a different size/shape (a hippy size 12) so this might be useless, but today I am wearing some wide-leg leopard print jeans from Damson Madder with a white t-shirt tucked in (from &OS) a a green crew neck M&S cardi over the top, and white Adidas Samba trainers. I often wear untucked tops but I know other people prefer to have more "shape" to their outfit so want a more fitted top/defined waist.

I think they look ridiculous with heels. I have shorter flares that look good with chunky Esska sandals, but full length need trainers or similar imo.

I wear them with slim fitting tops, for balance. But a looser top could be ok if not too long.

When I wear my flared jeans I have to have a fitted top as otherwise I'd look either pregnant or like a barrel. I have big boobs and a tummy. I usually stick with a plain v neck fitted tshirt and cardigan or a fitted jumper.

I wear mine with converse, I found they look better than with my New Balance or Puma Suede trainers.

I’m similar (size 14 and g cups) and i wear mine with tucked in tops. Sometimes just tucked in at the front. Not too fitted either but loose and baggy. With trainers mainly.
its hard to explain.

I feel like I’d need to be 5’10 or above and a size 8 to pull them off. I’m 5’ 2” and I don’t even know what size I am right now but it’s not an 8. I do think a good rule when it comes to top and bottom is tight and tight is fine, right and baggy is fine, baggy and right is fine and baggy and baggy is awful. So I’d go tight on top to the best of your ability.

This poster explained what I’m too exhausted to explain, the tucking in and explanation is perfect!

Size 14 apple here and I would wear a front-tucked t shirt, maybe v neck or scoop neck, and trainers.

Something like this with a Chucky cardigan or blazer and trainers.

A lot of it depends on the rise of the jean and the overall vibe. I had some relatively high waisted dark denim jeans that I wore quite dressy with a silk shirt or silk t shirt tucked in with a low heeled pointy shoe or boot & a blazer. If they were a more faded jean that sat lower down on the waist I would probably wear a trainer. I don’t wear high tops with full length trousers or jeans.

I like the boxy t shirts at Rise & Fall - they have some weight and are the right length to leave out, French tuck or full tuck.

Missohnoyoubetterdont · 21/04/2025 15:43

I wear fitted tops/blouses with wide jeans to balance out the flare!

AlertCat · 21/04/2025 16:08

@Divebar2021 what’s a French tuck, is that just tucked in at the front?

You may not like heels but to suggest they look ridiculous is a bit hyperbolic.

nothing ridiculous about these examples. And it dresses them up if people want to wear them for more than day time/very casual sneaker situations.

I wear mine with tucked in shirts, tucked in T-shirts with a cardigan or with an untucked slightly oversized jumper. Always with platform converse or gazelles.

DelphiniumBlue · 21/04/2025 17:13

I'm thinking scoop neck t-shirt and then a fairly lightweight open shirt. I'd like to wear fitted top with wide bottoms, but on my kind of apple shape, that doesn't look nice from the side, hence the shirt on top.
It worked on me with black trousers and t-shirt and a chambray shirt, but not sure how it will work with jeans...am expecting Halara wide legs in the post!
