I need a dress for a formal dinner. Dress code is business casual, the women usually wear nice dresses. It is at the law firm where my hubby works and people are usually classy. I am clueless. I have tried the dress below from Hobbs and it is fine but fabric bunches a bit at the front so not hugely flattering.

I am late 40s, a size 12 with a bit of a tummy and chunky thighs. I am 5ft6. I have brown hair, pale skin so usually avoid blacks and I don't love bright colours or big patterns. Nothing revealing as it's my hubby's work colleagues. I love blues, navy, burgundy. I would like to look classic but not old fashioned if that is possible.
I would really appreciate any guidance as I would love to feel confident. I also need a bag to wear with the dress, to fit my phone, lippy etc
