Sandals - plantar fasciatis

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 30/03/2025 22:24

I usually live in saltwater sandals for a good 6 months of the year. Several pairs of them. I have over winter developed plantar fasciatis and can't go bare foot or wear very flat shoes. I'm mostly wearing my running trainers as they're more supportive .

Any ideas on a replacrment for my saltwater? Clearly I'm not big into fashion by the fact that I wear them at all , and now with PF comfort def does trump style!

I like Birkenstock and Archie’s flip flops/sliders for the summer.

The only shoes that worked for me are the Fitflop brand and ASICS Nimbus. You won’t have pain with these for sure. Birkenstocks are not a good shoe for planta they are not tight enough and you end up holding them on with your toes which is a problem with planta. I find fitflop basic flipflops and any sandals with a strap secure the foot better. Fitflop slippers are the best relief around the house!

Teva original are amazing and not too unfashionable. You will not take them off!

I have Birkenstocks too.

or try hotter tourister

my PF last 24 months. It was caused by a long walk in saltwater sandals

I struggled last year! I tried all sorts- even my trusted Gizeh birkies didn’t work or expensive hiking sandals. In the end, the only shoes I could wear last summer were Crocs!
hideous - I feel your pain

Surely just get the swimmer or boardwalk saltwaters with the chunky sole? So comfy….

I need to see a pair in person I think but these might be what I go for. I just don't like most of the suggestions.

Birkenstocks. If you think you won't be able to break them in, get a pair of the EVA Arizonas. It's like wearing a fluffy cloud (and a 1/3 of the price).

IlovePond · 20/04/2025 09:22

Following these recommendations with interest - I had never heard of Archie’s or Ooofa’s - will definitely check them out.

Birkenstocks actually aggravate my PF, but I know some people swear by them. I find FitFlops are ok, (but not as comfy for me as pre PF).

HOKA slides were brilliant used as slippers when my PF was particularly bad, even though they are actually outdoor/pool shoes. They are spectacularly ugly, (particularly when paired with socks in winter 😹), but so great for my poorly feet I could have wept with gratitude when I was really suffering!

HOKA trainers are excellent, (recommended by my podiatrist). I intend to try the HOKA sandals this summer.

Just found this, as I'm doing a holiday sort out and debating never wearing normal flip flops again. I wear oofos in the house, but I find them a bit wide and slightly dangerous, because of the thick sole. I've slid out too many times to be safe round a pool.

Based on recommendations on here, I got moshulu sandals for evening/ work in summer. I don't get on with birkies. These work.

I've got the Saltwater swimmers, and although they are more cushioned than the normal ones, they still have no arch support to speak of.

I went for a pair from Moshulu , and so pleased I did!
