70's outfit for an event

Hello all
I need to dress in 70's style for an event. I am thinking floppy hat and psychedelic mini dress. I have the hat, but the only dresses I have seen online are by Shein, and I really don't want to buy from them. Are there any other options? I also don't want to spend a lot as I will not wear it again. I am 4ft 11 and a size 6.

Oliver Bonas has a few 70s style mini dresses at the moment

this for example but there’s quite a few other contenders.

pricier than Shein of course…

Actually their sale section has quite a few options at around £25-35

Shein may not pay its workers in China a lot of money but for many of them it it their only Oporto earn. Psychedelic mini dress says 60s to me.

70s needs a long flowing cheesecloth frock.

Try charity shops too.

@user1492809438 Your idea is more 1960s than 70s.

I was working in the mid 70s (teaching.) I can assure you that no one was wearing short minis then- they were definitely late 60s style (I had some white knee high boots with mine!) Ditto for psychedelic patterns.

The style you're suggesting was Mary Quant style, mid to late 60s.

1970s was more midi length skirts and dresses, some long summer dresses, (cheesecloth or ditsy cotton fabric), flares, (just like today!) .

I was just looking on ebay and there is a tie dye top.well with clothes dye you could tie dye a white tshirt, and bell bottoms were in so you could look for wide legged trousers and that could be a fairly cheap way of sorting it.

Joanie often has 70s style dresses. Worth a look on Vinted, I get alot of my Joanie frocks from there!

You could go 70s disco if you prefer? Sequins etc

Thanks everyone, food for thought. I was a teen in the 70's, I had forgotten about [blotted out] the cheesecloth shirt and platforms. I love the apricot dress, definitely a contender.
