I don’t do ladylike shoes at all, I live in trainers, boots and lace ups.
i am looking at a midi dark green dress or dark burgundy midi skirt/top.
i don’t really like sandals.

Would you consider a heel or do they have to be flat?

Thursdaywatchthewalls · 23/03/2025 08:53

Low heel ok if sensible. The style would suit Mary Jane style but the comfy ones look like toddler shoes to me.

Have you considered loafers? Moshulu have a good range:

They also have Mary Jane styles - the low heel ones are more grown up looking and they also have an espadrille style, which might work for summer:

I'm currently obsessed with Memery vintage style shoes and they do a low heel brogue type shoe you might like. Memery is pricey but the customer service is first class and the shoes are incredibly well made and SO comfortable! These come in 4 colours:

There are loads of flat Mary Jane style shoes around at the moment. Try Cos, Stories, Me & Em, Camper.
None of these look quite a babyish as the Moshulu ones to my mind.

I think a slip on loafer / flat mule can look elegant with midi length, and very practical vs the usual wedding shoes

Some of these are my usual go to brands but I can only really afford them because I get good wear. I won’t wear Mary Jane’s again so might need cheaper - within £50.

im looking at the other suggestions too. Thanks all.

if it was winter I’d go for brogues with brocade pattern sections and wouldn’t mind paying as I’d wear them. Too heavy for summer though.

Thank you. They are a bit too flat for me. I’m awkward!

I've got some metallic brogues - one pair silver and one pair gold - that I've worn with dresses and skirts although not for a wedding but I don't see why not. I've had them years though and I'm not sure where you'd find any at the moment.

If you like the ones that @ArghhWhatNext linked but they're just too flat, Clarkes makes a similar style with a low block heel - I can't link on my phone without a giant block of link text but search clarkes leather patent block heel court shoe - on the M&S website.

Watching with interest as I am in the same boat! I’m wearing a teal midi dress to a relatively glam wedding but I can’t wear totally flat shoes or anything too high either due to a foot injury. 1 to 2 cm heel is ideal.

Just for reference I’d have a look at Grenson. I wear boots or brogues or loafers through most of the year so find this a useful place for seasonal versions of everything. Obviously they’re not cheap, but if you maintain them well they’ll last pretty much for ever.

I've got a pair of white brogues from Boden that I've worn to summer weddings.
