What shoes with this dress

I have a do coming up, drinks in a stylish city centre bar. I am going to wear this dress (although it is a tad bit longer and tighter on me)

Can you please provide some shoe suggestions? I would love trainers but not sure I have any which go, I’m not a heel fan, and I’m hoping it’ll be warm enough for boots to not be an option. Don’t want formal or too dressy. Looking for smart but casual, fashionable and comfy. Thank you!

Bumping, but what are your thoughts on black Veja campos?

What trainers do you have?

What trainers do you have?

My only “smart” trainers are some white Air and Grace ones.
Thinking of getting the Veja ones

I wouldn't get the Veja ones. They were very popular a few years ago, but not now. If you like them, then get them.

UserNameOfShame · 22/03/2025 17:44

Do you have any other suggestions?

OP posts:
UpMyself · 22/03/2025 17:56

Not really. I'd wear the Air and Grace ones.

NorthernSpirit · 22/03/2025 18:08

Esska platforms (they don’t need to be large).

They are so comfortable (and I say this as someone who lives in trainers and doesn’t do heels).

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 23/03/2025 00:19

Not trainers. You'd look as if you intended to wear trainers to get there but forgot to take the shoes you intended to change into. Almost any of these.

It seems that all threads about footwear on S&B end up suggesting trainers with everything and to every occasion. Why?? It is such a beautiful, feminine dress, there are plenty of other choices.

WineOfYourFiveADay · 23/03/2025 09:11

What about a decorative ballet flat? These from Zara are lovely, these from Reserved are also sweet, and these from & Other Stories have lovely gold detailing on the strap that makes them good for the evening.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
I kind of wanted to avoid black flats, as I don’t want it to look too “work wear” (I wear a lot of black dresses to the office and this is a work do)

Maybe I should be thinking about heels…

You could wear red flats or animal skin flats or silver flats. There's loads of non black flats on H & M link or WineOfYourFiveADay's suggestions.

But the dress is “work wear” so it’s going to be hard to avoid it looking like anything else regardless of what you wear on your feet.

Are you planning on wearing a jacket or something else to make it look less corporate? (That might impact your footwear choice).

RosesAndHellebores · 23/03/2025 11:19

Not trainers.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 23/03/2025 11:20

What is the obsession with wearing trainers with dresses?

You're going to a fancy bar and making an effort with a dress. Why then would you wear trainers?!

Personally a ballet flat or heels with a dress like that.

doubleshift · 23/03/2025 11:45

Not trainers no. Although the fact you keep linking trainers and suggesting them to yourself suggests you’ve already made up your mind.

Well, I linked one pair of trainers….

Ooh I have some very similar to this.
Not sure if the weather will be kind enough to wear them though.

SoftPillow · 23/03/2025 14:12

I have this dress, or an identical version from last year.

It hasn’t ever looked good with trainers for me. I wear it with straps healed sandals when it’s a smarter and warmer occasion, healed pointed shoes or pointed flats for work occasions, boots when it’s winter.

It always gets nice comments and it’s very versatile.
