Help invited to an 80s fancy dress party. Now I was around then but was the type to wear second hand clothes . Big coats boots etc.
Plus I'm
Short fat and old so any suggestions welcome

I would probably base my look on bananarama. Or Levi 501 with belt and batwing jumper . Or rara skirt and jelly shoes

Dress with huge shoulder pads. Large elegant hat. Big round earrings - Joan Collins in Dynasty. Or early Madonna - mad hair with lots of mousse, loads of beads, lace gloves, cute little ankle boots.

.... oooh, a flattering one for someone older: Blues Brothers: man's suit, sunglasses, hat!

Last 80s party we went to, husband and I went as Maverick and Goose. We got a couple of flight suits cheap from ebay and he had a fake moustache.

Usual 80s party looks:

Black outfit with neon accessories (this is the easiest albeit not sure anyone actually wore this in the 80s)

Shell suit in bright colours

Dynasty/Dallas - suit with big shoulder pads, hair and big earrings

Madonna

Someone from a well known 80s movie eg Breakfast Club, Heathers, Footloose

80s themed T shirt like Frankie Says Relax or a Wham T shirt and jeans/cut offs. Ideally big 80s style trainers too. Leather or denim jacket maybe

Oh I definitely like the idea of dynasty and PowerSuit!
Check out vinted and local independent charity shops!

I would get inspiration from Cyndi Lauper
