where to begin with 'smart casual' shopping?

I have a new part time job that will require me to wear smart/smart casual clothes. Currently I work on a farm, and live in wellies and jeans. I wear checked shirts, soft jumpers, chinos and jeans...... completely out of my depth outside of that!

What would you buy to start a different wardrobe ? and where would you buy it?!

(I'm 51, size 14 and 5ft5)

thank you!

My workplace is smart/casual & I wear the same clothes outside of work too. Lots of wide leg trousers & jeans (Zara & M&S), chunky cardigans (H&M) or straight shackets/cardigans (Zara), T-shirts (Cos or M&S), cashmere v neck jumpers (Uniqlo). I get my main trainers from On Cloud (in off white & black) & my coloured ones from Stradivarius (Adidas gazelles would be more on trend but they are just not comfy enough for me).

How smart? Corporate city wear or behind the scenes admin at a school or farm machinery type of thing?

And how much do you want to spend? Unless you’re fee-earning or wining and dining oligarchs you could probably buy everything you need from

Uniqlo
Community Clothing
Mango
Zara
M and Spencer

So, chore/field jackets, chinos, shirt dresses, simple shirts and skirts. Smarter jeans? Really the main thing might be grooming and ironing.
