PLEASE help me find a flattering size 16 evening dress

DP has his football presentation do at the end of the month. We have a complicated history and its quite a big deal for me to be going so I really need to look good!!

For some reason they've decided to make it posh, I think men are wearing tuxes (never been this dressy before ) so I need a proper evening dress but it is just a small local football club so nothing too extravagant.

I'm 29, size 16 but 2 years ago pre pg/bfing I was a 12 so not very comfortable with my size atm. I have a tendency to want to cover up with loose flowy things but not sure that thats most flattering. I've big boobs but in proprtion with rest of me. Fairly curvy and I have a waist if you look straight on at me but side on I have a fat problem tummy after 3 dc, although I have ordered a waist cincher thingumy so hopefully that'll help. Legs not great, I always have big calves even when not as fat! But they're shapely still if that makes any sense. And I don't like my upper arms at all so need some sort of bolero/cardi/shrug thing.

I don't want anything too bright or 'hey look at me' because I'm self conscious about my body but at the same time I still wanna look good and subtley sexy. Oh and I'm skint so nothing too expensive!

TIA

That was quick!!

I like that but I'm not sure about patterns on me. Although I don't know why! I do like the style though

Really? I've always gone for black to do that! Ok we have a big new monsoom in town so will go and try it on tomorrow if they have it.

Any other suggestions?

First one a bit too tailored for my liking, would be self conscious about my arse but I like the second one a lot and next is good as I have an account so can spread the cost!! Not completely sure about the red bow though?!

I'd say understated

but yes, I suppose it is......like me

Pisha · 11/05/2008 20:54

Daisy I'd worry about my arse in a dress like that I think, theres nowhere to hide in it!!

Would this be ok? Although its very expensive but could maybe find it cheaper on ebay or similar style somewhere. Do you think maxi dresses will look ok on me? I'm 5'5 if that makes a difference.

Or I like this?

I love the colour of that warehouse one. Will you be needing to wear a bra, though, or do you have a good strapless one?

lackaDAISYcal · 11/05/2008 21:11

lol pisha, I thought it would hide a multitude of sins.

This website is reasonably priced and some are similar in shape to the pierce fionda one

JackieNo · 11/05/2008 21:12

This looks nice, also in black. Not sure 5'5 counts as petite though.

Pisha · 11/05/2008 21:14

I will need a bra but would also want some sort of arm cover up thing anyway which could cover bra straps or if not I have an ok strapless bra.

This is pretty too.
Gorgeous colour.
As is this.

JackieNo · 11/05/2008 21:20

More black
Silver
Black
V pretty pale pink

Pisha · 11/05/2008 21:36

I like both the enchanted ones, love the Amanda Wakely one but unsure about the length.

Like the petite one also, especially the hem, but it says to 5'2 so I'm too tall but like the style.

The Nicholas Millington one is nice too but I think would probably really emphasise my tummy with the low waist line.

And sexyher site has a few nice long classic black dresses.
