If I am a seasoned 1% retinol user......

Never experienced any retinol uglies, peeling etc, even close to the eye, and I want to move over to tretinoin, what strength should I go for please?

The lowest strength, 0.025%, use it a couple times a week and build up. If you experience any irritation try buffering a layer of moisturiser before bed after the tret, avoid the eye area.

wot?

What aren't you understanding? What a strange comment.

rumkar · 27/02/2025 03:16

I would recommend starting at 0.025% strength and increasing gradually. You can get a vegan tretinoin without it being so stacked with chemicals. Monderma does it for £24.

Is it possible to plateau with retinol? I'm hoping tret will give more noticeable results, is that likely?

very likely, such as your face getting very red and peeling off if you don’t use it very carefully as the PP have said 😁 and use plenty of sunscreen / hats

I'd probably choose one or the other. Tret is a retinoid, which is more effective than retinol. I get it from Monderma, but there are a few UK pharmacies that sell it now. It seems to be gaining popularity.

That would not be sensible, lol.

HunterNoir · 28/02/2025 07:59

I'm deffo not going to be using them together, I want to move over to Tret. Is there likely to be sensitivity seeing as I've been using retinol for years? Or is it likely if I tolerated retinol really well then it should be the same with tret. I'll likely stay with retinol if tret might cause issues last thing I need on top of everything else right now is a peeling face

You should be fine, just don't start higher than 0.025%. Build up your strength.

Brazilagogo · 01/03/2025 02:40

Don’t assume that if you have no peeling after day 1 that you can continue to use it every night. Some people do that and find their skin barrier compromised after a few days. However, you should use it a minimum of once every 3 days otherwise you’ll never get your skin used to it.

I buffered, and built up to every day over the course of a month on
dermatica 0.025 and only had peeling around my mouth but everyone is different. Skin and Me start at a much lower dosage. Now I apply straight after washing my face without buffering. I’ve been using 0.05 nightly for over 2 years and I’m sure I could tolerate 0.1 but a lot of what I’ve read says that you can achieve the same anti ageing benefits by consistent use at a lower dose.

Spot on.

FannyBawz · 02/03/2025 05:32

I went straight for 1% but was totally fine - didn’t even really peel. Sone around the mouth for 2-3 days. I was religious with the moisturiser and suncream however because I have very pale sensitive skin.

I use it on alternate days and give my skin and quick rub with a hard towel after my shower.

Moisturising before and after does seems to prevent peeling.

Zeldasie · 02/03/2025 20:03

Is Monderma another subscription service?

I'm looking to buy it on a whim be off basis.

Zeldasie · 02/03/2025 20:04

Sorry, on a one off basis

rumkar · 02/03/2025 20:30

I think so, just order and specify that you want it as a one-off. They're offering a £12 special.

Zeldasie · 02/03/2025 20:38

Thanks, I'll have a look

BeretRaspberry · 02/03/2025 21:36

Just to say the lowest dose is 0.015%…I was on it for years through Dermatica.

0.015% tret is effective when combined with similar strength azelaic acid etc.

Jillfi · 03/03/2025 12:42

Skin+Me go to 0.006% I think

It's better to start with 0.025 as that is the lowest one to start with. Here goes my routine on a later stage if you would be interested:
Morning:
Using water to wash your face,
Sebamed clear face gel,
Garnier spf
Cicaplast
Evening:
LRP moisturizer,
Tretinoin (0.1) from skinorac
Sebamed clear facial gel
