How do you pack your make up on long haul flights?

I am flying long haul later this week, first time for about a million years. I am still in the era of 100ml liquids only!

I used to pack face cream, cosmetics in hand luggage to avoid putting them in hold but what do others do?

Not helpful as it goes in my suitcase as I don't need make up on a plane. But out of interest why do you want to avoid make up in the hold?

thehorsesareallidiots · 25/02/2025 19:30

It all just goes in my hold bag.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 25/02/2025 19:33

I put them in the hold

Whatisthisbs · 25/02/2025 19:34

I pack all my make up in my suitcase and literally take about 3 or 4 items in my carry on, that I'll definitely need for the flight. Have a feeling the 100ml thing has been scrapped in the majority of airports, but anything like that I'll decant into a small travel bottle and take in my hand luggage

A million million years ago, stuff put in the hold sometimes got damaged due to pressure.

Am old gimmer!

Assuming this doesn'r happen now....

Ah ok. No I've never known that happen. I've just googled whether the 100ml thing has been scrapped and I'd not take the chance to be honest.

I've had explosions in my make up bag when putting it in the hold. I can't be arsed with decanting everything, so now I just try to put anything "explosive" in a separate bag, or wrap it in some cling film.

I haven't had any cosmetics get damaged in the hold. I guess just make sure there's no leaky bottles? Also some airports it does still need to be 100ml or less in a clear bag (I last travelled two months ago). If needed, I'll pack the essentials really and decant them into smaller bottles to meet the requirement. So 50ml cleanser, tiny tub of moisturiser, small tube of spf, cc cream, lip oil etc clear bag. The rest larger toiletries and make up goes in hold.

Parker231 · 25/02/2025 19:44

I do a long haul flight most months and have always put all make up and toiletries in the hold without any problems. I don’t need any of them during the flight.

The pressure in the hold and the cabin is the same.

Damage from pressure is possible. The biggest risk is probably tubes bursting. Another advantage of the clear cabin bags. Stronger bags with zips can be bought and are compliant.

I mostly go short haul, hand luggage only. I decent the products I need into compliant size containers. B&M and Primark stock bottles and little screw top pots in a transparent case for this. It's always been acceptable just to put the products through in it without faffing with the airport plastic bags.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 25/02/2025 21:00

Ah I think I'll just pack in hold in little ziploc bags. My make up is not that expensive and chances are it'll be fine. Thanks!

I take all of mine on the flight. I don’t want to loose it! Stuff over 100ml is rare so that would go in the hold. Stuff like foundation and mascara I put in the plastic zip lock bag for the scanners

Laiste · 25/02/2025 21:21

I put anything liquid or gel in a plastic bag in hold luggage.

If it leaks or breaks (the bags get chucked about so much) then it doesn't go all over your clothes.

Egypt a few years ago i was sooo glad i did this as something did burst. Might have been spare sun screen.
