Equivalent bra size to swimwear size

Elliegeez · 24/02/2025 17:03

I'm looking at buying an underwired swimsuit for the first time and they all seem to size by bra size which seems wild to me.
What is the equivalent of a 38B bra size? I'm quite pesr-shaped and wear a size 18. Am I better sizing up or down in a swimsuit? Does anyone have a conversion chart for this?

If they size by bra size then surely you get a 38b no?

Maybe what was in my head didn't come out very well. I'm just trying to find out the equivalent clothing sizes

If they're sold in bra sizes then just buy your normal bra size.
If you're unsure that your normal bra size is right, try measuring using the reddit "a bra that fits" or Facebook's "boob or bust" calculator.
Converting your bra size to a dress size is difficult because a 38b could be anywhere from a size 18 up.

Thanks for your reply. I guess I'll just order it and see how it goes. But the fact you said "Converting your bra size to a dress size is difficult because a 38b could be anywhere from a size 18 up." Just confirms how ridiculous it is to sell swimsuits according to cup size. It seems this is how it's done for underwired swimsuits and just seems ridiculous to me.

It’s trial and error and look at whether you have free returns- so you can order 2

To be honest though if you’re wearing a 38B then you’re going to be bigger than someone in a 36b and swimwear is stretchy so if the cup fits the rest stretches… and the suit will be bigger depending on the cup size.
I found M and S not good size wise but Next had a few from different companies that fit well and had free returns.

Do you mean you don't know what size bottoms to get to go with the top bit? It will be the same as the size of pants you wear.

I'm confused by your question. You just buy a swimsuit that's your bra size. The likes of M&S don't do bra-size swimwear which is really annoying. I've got big boobs and despite upsizing and buying a size 18 swimsuit the cups are tiny on me.

I go to Bravissimo for swimwear so I can get the correct bra size swimsuit. They're very expensive but look a lot better than having droopy boobs in a too-big swimsuit!

As with all brands, some fit better than others. But I'd recommend trying on various brand swimsuits in your bra size and find the brand that's right on you.

I'm sorry I don't really get whta you mean.
I prefer buying swimwear in my bra size as it fits better than a generic dress size.

I don’t understand your question either. Unless you are flat chested you wouldn’t be buying a normal bra in size 10 or 14, would you?! Same for swimwear. If you need fit and support only way to get it is by buying cup sized bikini tops.
As for bottoms, you just buy your normal size (I do size up as don’t like them cutting into).

SapphireOpal · 28/02/2025 07:00

I think OP is buying an actual swimsuit not a bikini and wondering how the rest of it is supposed to fit anyone who is a 38B irrespective of whether they're a size 18 or size 22 or whatever?

But swimsuits are stretchy and the range of sizes you can be at a 38B is pretty narrow I'd say because 38B implies a certain over bust measurement.

GreyAreas · 28/02/2025 08:21

It's tricky is the answer. Same with vest tops with built in bra. But they look terrible if you buy the wrong bra size. I find Bravissimo and Pour Moi have started to make them more realistically sized in the bodies. Consider buying a tankini or bikini so you can get the right size bottoms.

Next are excellent fitting swimsuits and rankings.

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 18/06/2025 17:08

A B cup is small so just get an 18 if that's your usual size. Also swimsuits are stretchy. If you'd said 38 G then you may need to try on the size 20....

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 18/06/2025 17:10

Selling swimsuits by bra size only makes sense id you're a DD or bigger. Otherwise I agree with you, not point!
