What jacket or coat will you be wearing now?

Just checked the 90-day forecast here in London and it's not going below 11 degrees from now on. So that's my wool coat packed away!

What are we all going to be wearing as our outer layers between now and the summer? I am looking for two items - one for every day school run with leggings / jeans and one for evenings out with smart jeans / skirt?

I must admit I really like wearing my winter coats as they are my best quality items (most expensive) and wearing a long coat flatters me as I'm tall, and makes me appear slimmer (conceals my overweight middle).

Shorter jackets just aren't as elegant but I'm sure there must be something nice?

Any ideas? I'm 43, tall, size 14 and fairly on trend, or so I think!

Thanks 🙏

I'm in NI where it's colder, it's still getting down to around 1deg at night and it's chilly in the day because of the coastal wind. Nothing wintery is getting packed away just yet.

I'm still mainly alternating a M&S parka, Reiss belted oversized wool coat if I need something a bit smarter, and Uniqlo light down puffer jacket if it's not cold enough for something heavier.

MissPrismsMistake · 24/02/2025 17:29

I have no idea. Utterly furious this weekend when, even with just a linen shirt, my beloved new Winter coat was on the cusp of too hot. I was praying for a spot of snow in March or April - so you’ve ruined my day.

Obviously I’ve scoured every website and seen all the options, but it’s much too early - I’m not ready for lightweight outerwear yet.

itsmondayyy · 24/02/2025 18:03

@MissPrismsMistake yes I feel your pain! I love winter clothes! Due to perimenopause I'm constantly a few degrees warmer as well! Sad

I was thinking this earlier. I cannot remember what I wore last year at all! Whatever it was I must still have it somewhere.

I like my big winter coat. But I was hot today in Scotland!

Anyoneforcoffee · 24/02/2025 18:28

I think a long ish trench coat does the same sort of job for looking sleek. I might wear an oversized blazer though.

dudsville · 24/02/2025 18:32

My next transition is to my wonderful donegal wool "jackets". One is like a bomber jacket shape. Love it so much.

mdinbc · 24/02/2025 18:45

I will transition from a helly Hansen waterproof parka to my Lululemon waterproof Rain Rebel. It's breathable, not rubbery, so easy to wear. I also have a short, close fitting quilted jacket bought cheaply years ago that is light enough for spring.

Imposter1212 · 24/02/2025 18:55

I'm in Scotland so my winter coat is still needed (I always feel the cold) though ditched the scarf.

I ordered a navy pea coat yesterday for spring. It was an impulse purchase which I started to regret 10 minutes after hitting buy.

Eminybob · 24/02/2025 19:02

I have a classic beige Mac that is yet to have an outing since I have lost enough weight to fit back into it. I'm not 100% if it's "me" this year though. It keeps coming out of my wardrobe then back in again.

My current go to now it's warmer is my leather biker. Genuinely goes with everything in my wardrobe.

Ilovelowry · 24/02/2025 19:15

I'm in Central London on Saturday and forcast is 9 and sunny, but will be 2 on the station on the way in.

So for me, wool coat and mittens!

HundredMilesAnHour · 24/02/2025 19:30

I’m addicted to coats and jackets. My father is exactly the same so I’m blaming genetics. Clearly with my genes I never stood a chance. 😂

I’m in central London and currently going through a phase of various lengths/colours of macs (from either Mackintosh, Aquascutum or Community Clothing), Barbours (usually collaboration ones so House of Hackney/Temperley/Alexa Chung) and capes. Someone needs to stop me buying any more sodding capes please!

Although last week I did whip out my green leather trench coat for work. I do tend to wear a different coat/jacket every day as I own a LOT and I love them all. Do not ask my advice about buying coats as I will lead you down a long dark path that you may never escape from (and we’ll have the best time 😝)

justasking111 · 24/02/2025 19:33

Was so warm today in town Boots M&S and River Island the heating was belting out in store I was only wearing a thin blouse and a cardigan. Felt very uncomfortable.

CandyCane457 · 24/02/2025 19:40

Leather jacket with a scarf for the days that feel a bit colder, or my trench style mac!

Ah haha I love coats and jackets too, and I was going to say I’m looking forward to wearing my favourite Mackintosh trench, and my Barbour (I have one Alexa Chung collab and one John Lewis one - both modern cuts/boxy and cropped). I also have a gorgeous tweed blazer that I’ll wear once it’s warm enough.

I’m not buying anything more as I really don’t need to but if I were I’d get this: https://aligne.co/products/barnaby-reversible-trench-coat-navy

Or this: https://www.mackintosh.com/products/womens-humbie-collarless-denim-jacket-indigo.

CerealPosterHere · 24/02/2025 19:40

I’ve got so many coats it’s untrue.

so mid weight grey Zara padded bomber jacket
i have a nice knee length waterproof Barbour , slightly padded (Not quilted or waxed)
Ted baker trench coat
uniqlo long bloctec waterproof coat
knee length waxed over sized coat
padded black gilet with hood.
i have a khaki mid thigh fairly lightweight but warm coat with hood which is very versatile, shower proof not waterproof ….looks a bit like the Barbour Hayley linked below but mine is all green.

I don't think I'll be putting my winter coat away yet! March can be freezing!

What jacket or coat will you be wearing now?

Are you me?! I'm also in Scotland and also impulse bought a navy pea coat yesterday 😂😂

Mac or a poncho. I’m waiting on the delivery of this beauty, and it’s for a good cause too.

I feel like the cold weather will come back before it's gone for good though!

I have a few options for spring weather,
Denim and plaid trenchcoats
Faux leather and leopard print oversized blazers
Biker jacket
Denim jacket
Mod style khaki parka
Cord jacket
(I'd like a decent knee length waterproof coat but they are too sweaty if it's warmer).

I suppose then you have the option of shackets, coatigans or big chunky cardies.

Thighdentitycrisis · 24/02/2025 20:15

in London today I wore my 50/50 wool / poly mid length coat. For the next month I’ll probably still be wearing a wool coat for walking around and skip the layers and jumpers underneath for sitting in the overheated office

Imposter1212 · 24/02/2025 21:16

littleteapot86 · 24/02/2025 19:51

Are you me?! I'm also in Scotland and also impulse bought a navy pea coat yesterday 😂😂

Oh 😆

Big boobs (32g) make coats really tricky. They never look how I want them to look

It was a bit of an impulse and panic buy as I'm off to London next week for work and my usual spring jacket got bleach on it.

tillyandmilly · 24/02/2025 21:19

I read temperatures dipping to 6 degrees next week in the South East so I am not packing my winter coats away yet - just bought a brightly coloured short puffa packable jacket spring colours but padded - will bring out the spring clothes April ! We have just gone into Spring so no summer clothes yet!

itsmondayyy · 24/02/2025 22:18

@tillyandmilly not sure about SE generally but Central London will be pretty mild from now on. Here's March forecast and April looks the same then creeping up to 18.

Am thinking trench coat for evenings but don't want to wear it day in day out so need another day time option.

What jacket or coat will you be wearing now?
