Staying warm in a dress

I'm normally in trousers, socks, shoes, t-shirt jumper and fleece. Often a pretty scarf too.

I don't like being cold. This is why I don't like dresses I think. How on earth do you stay warm?

Suggestions welcome.

Thick tights. This time of year my dresses are of thicker material and I’ll have a jacket on top too. Knee high boots if I’m really feeling the cold.

I wear my Spanx all in one under mine in winter

I have two Fleurine merino knitted vests from Wyse, one in black and one in navy, which I wear over dresses to work. They have been extremely useful and the cost per wear has worked out well.
Looking forward to putting them away though soon until next year!

Thin cashmere turtleneck sweater underneath.

Thermal vests and flesh coloured fleece lined leggings with thick tights over them.

50/89 denier rights, weather appropriate dress. Warmer than trousers to me.

I only really wear jumper dresses in winter. Or something I can wear a jumper or cardigan with. And boots with socks over thick tights 😆

Tights, boots and layers on top half. Have never had a problem.

In freezing weather, for me a long sleeved base layer, thermal tights, chunky socks with a long sleeved dress works well and feels easy to move in.

Thermal vest, very thin long sleeve mesh top underneath. Cardi/bomber jacket/blazer over the top, depending on how smart you want/need to be. Tights, boots with socks. Toasty!

I hate tights so tend to wear midi or maxi dresses and leggings with knee high socks over on very cold days, and just knee high socks on less cold days.

Cardi or jumper over the top and if it's really really cold a thermal vest/tshirt underneath.

Merino wool turtlenecks underneath - from Uniqlo £29.90.

All of the above plus a slip.

Fleece lined tights, extra pair of socks over, knee or above the knee boots, low scoop neck (so you can’t see it) thermal top underneath. I managed many a night out and commute to work in a Chicago winter dressed like that! Trousers I could never get quite right as too cold on their own but too hot whenever you go inside if you add a base layer.

I find dresses warmer in the winter as I find it easier to layer.

Thermal vest, long sleeved top, thermal tights/leggings (Primark velvet leggings are the best IMO), 2 pairs of socks and cardie or jumper on top.
In the really cold weather I tend to wear more jumper dresses, or pinafore dresses are also good as they are often thicker fabric like cord or denim.

I don't understand how people who wear jeans stay warm in winter or cool in summer. Agree with InTheRainOnATrain re limitations of trousers.

Re dresses, winter weight dresses, close fitting long sleeved thermal vest, waist or full slip, under and cardigan, jumper or jacket over, opaque tights from 40 to 100 denier, boots.

A base layer underneath and a cardigan on top. Thick tights and I chose dresses in a thicker material and long sleeves in the winter. I keep the short sleeves and cotton ones for the summer.

A vest and thin t-shirt underneath a dress, cardigan on top. Leggings instead of tights, fleece lined warm ones.

Vest or slip + dress + cardigan or jacket + tights + boots.

Leggings or tight shorts just above the hem

Socks and knee length boots if it's really cold.

As everyone says - layers. Warm tights, a slip, or thermals, cardigans etc, I mostly wear trousers because they are practical for me, out with dog, dealing with chickens etc. but actually dresses can be warmer. I’m definitely not cold in a dress in the Winter and I’ve worn them in colder countries than this.

I used to have some lovely boots but sadly they wore out beyond repair. Maybe I need a new pair as that'll solve half a problem. Going to look at thermal tights! Thanks all.

Patra silk thermal vest. I have a very ancient one but I see they still sell them.
