Current fashions don’t suit me

I have always enjoyed clothes and fashion but I find I don’t suit the current fashions at all eg wide leg trousers, joggers, sports leggings, trainers, mom style jeans, baggy jumpers.

I don’t mind casual clothes but there is just too much material for me. I am small framed but not petite at 5’4’’. I don’t have a single pair of jeans as I was wearing skinnies and they were so tight they didn’t look right any more. I have tried on lots of jeans but they come up high on the waist and look awful (I have a short body 😬.)

Does anyone else feel the same? What do you wear? I would like to buy a few things for spring and thought of a cropped jacket which would give me a different look and maybe Mary Jane style shoes.

Choose clothes that suit your body shape.

Places like M and S and Next have a huge range of jeans shapes and sizes so you’re bound to find something you like.

A friend of mine is petite and she has an a line cord dress. They have a black one in Nobody's Child it's worth checking out. In summer she does chinos and looser slightly cropped trousers, maxi or knee length dresses.

Cropped jackets and Mary Janes are currently the very height of fashion. Grin

Are you just moaning for the sake of moaning? I’m shorter than you and have no difficulty finding clothes.

Anyway -

Massimo Dutti

has a very pared back but not twee aesthetic. You may find something there.

TheLongRider · 20/02/2025 14:35

Mid-rise and low -rise trousers are definitely available. I'm currently in Hollister and they have plenty of them.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 20/02/2025 14:56

I'm 5' 2" . I don't have any difficulty finding clothes I like.

I don't own any wide leg trousers, joggers, sports leggings, trainers, mom style jeans, baggy jumpers. There's plenty of other choices.

I ordered a nobody's child cord pinafore dress in the sale, but the seam what should fit under the bust came right across the bust I think you need to be flat chest to wear it.

I hate wide leg trousers, they make me look like a jolly sailor boy. My neighbour insists on wearing skinny jeans every day. She is around a size 18 and five foot. Skinny they are not.
Thank God for boot cut trousers. I don't care if they are in fashion or not. I just wear what I know suits me.

Bootcut is back in fashion!

BlueSilverCats · 20/02/2025 17:16

What about bootcut jeans? The ones that are tight on your thighs and wide at the bottom. By the looks of it, low rise jeans also seem to be coming back in.

Cuppachuchu · 20/02/2025 17:20

I don't care too much what is in fashion. I buy and wear what I know suits me, and I feel myself in. Wide legs, oversized tops and boxy jackets do me no favours, I agree that there is too much fabric, swamps me. Next do some mid rise straight leg jeans. I also have a short body and they are a nice fit.

QuickCrossword · 20/02/2025 18:16

Good to hear lower rise jeans are coming back. I have ordered four pairs of jeans from Next and just tried them on. The barrel leg ones were laughable, the high waist ones did not suit my stomach but I found a pair from FatFace which are quite flattering.

I also thought I would try out some dresses which I wouldn’t normally wear but might suit me better.

Wear what you like, @QuickCrossword . I never like what is fashionable but I still love clothes.

catadamss · 20/02/2025 19:01

I can't say that I follow various fashion trends, but I love shopping and if things are comfortable and also in trend, I consider it a plus.

HouseAshamed · 20/02/2025 19:12

Exactly, @catadamss .
No way am I wearing oversized blazers, barrel-legged jeans, cropped anything, french tucks, 'trench coats' especially ones that aren't trench coats, etc.
I'll wear what I love.

Gymbunny2025 · 20/02/2025 22:15

I think it looks much better to be stylish than fashionable (not saying I'm either!)
