What to do with a silk scarf?

For my birthday I was given a beautiful Fable silk scarf. It really is lovely but I am absolutely not the type of person who would wear it! I wear jeans and sweatshirt with trainers everyday. It wasn’t cheap, particularly given the gifters situation, so I would love to get some use out of it but have no clue how!
It’s 90cm x 90cm with a large single design in the centre.
Anyone got any ideas?

How about using it as an antimacassar? You'd need to sew it onto a backing of some sort to give it enough heft to lie flat, but it wouldn't be difficult. Plain cotton fabric would do, or a cut-down old towel. Iif you have wool and needles a plain knitted or crochet backing would also work well. Decorative and (sort of) functional.

I'm boggled at the idea that turning a scarf into an antimacassar is a more realistic option than just wearing it.

@IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle But the OP says she wouldn't feel comfortable wearing it, so I suggested an alternative way of enjoying it.

You could have it framed?

Tbh I'm boggled by the idea that a scarf is too difficult to wear. The Hermès links show them being worn with jeans and trainers. It's a scarf- not bondage gear.

Agree. I wore my favourite silk scarf tied around my neck today with a sleeveless t and denim shorts and sandals. I went from nondescript to pretty fabulous, even if I say so etc.

Is it the silk element that’s making you pause? Because mixing up textures can look great.

Hmm, possibly you think you can’t wear a scarf, so then you can’t wear a scarf.
I, sadly, am not a soigné person but I can absolutely wear a scarf - don’t let it own you, practice at home and take it from there. I love Nearly New Cashmere’s Instagram page - they sell silk scarves, not just cashmere, and always have great styling advice for achievable looks.
Enjoy it and “own” it.

I don’t think I could carry off this look with style. I’d just look like Emily Bishop.

@MarmaladeHoverfly I considered this but I think the cats would ruin it.
@Ruthietuthie dh said over his dead body would it hang in our house somewhere. Not his cup of tea either apparently!
@IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle yes it does but the most plain jumper and trainers imaginable. I only have Air Max 90s in lots of colours and definitely no plain cashmere knit wear.
@HotAndHassled I do wear scarves, but they are (in my mind) winter items to wear with a coat and keep me warm so mine are all chunky knit ones.
@polkadothorse Nailed it! I think I'm more likely to wear it as a halter top than a scarf.

When I look online at style suggestions the pictures are either ladies who are dressed significantly more elegantly than I do in blazers and sky high heels or they are much older than me.
I anticipate I will be asked where it is at some point so don’t feel like I can sell it.
I guess it is destined to sit in my wardrobe until it has definitely been forgotten about.

This. Frame it. Hang it at eye level somewhere where the sun catches it. Gorgeous.

@ZeroDucksLeft I wore a silk scarf to work today. With a dress from Issey Miyake. I think this thread actually inspired me as it reminded me that I hadn’t used a scarf as an accessory since pre Covid when I actually used to wear them all the time.

You might hate it. It was a spur of the moment thing. But I got lots of compliments, even random strangers coming up to me.

90x90 would be great as a Japanese origami shoulder bag (Fushiko?).
Tie two corners diagonally (shoulder strap) and put a fat knot in the opposite two corners. Flip it inside out and there you have it!
Stylish and roomy, perfect for holidays as it folds up to nothing.

Furoshiki bag tutorial.

Love it.

I never knew scarves were so scary. They're normal for me.

Drape it over a lamp shade or small table if you are unlikely to wear it.
