Thoughts on this dress for engagement party lunch?

Would this work for a fairly relaxed family engagement party (lunchtime) in an Italian restaurant? Wondering if a bit formal / workwear-ish...

Love your dress far more than any others suggested here. It's cute.

Boden one is very casual day dress, I wear dresses like that going to the shops in summer. Hate Nobody's Child, their dresses are horrible, frumpy, ugly, milkmaid-y with those awful massive sleeves. Monsoon one is ugly floral.

Wear yours.

Wear it with plaits like Wednesday Adam's

I'm not sure if you're being serious or sarcastic but I like it.

I like OP's dress best out of the alternatives

Doggymummar · 16/02/2025 19:10

It's very Sister Jane, but very well priced too. What's the quality like with Cider? Is it Temu, Shine esque

BlueRaspberry7 · 16/02/2025 19:22

The quality doesn't seem great at first look and feel (the dress arrived today) it's unlined, not got a quality, heavy feel to it and has a loose thread or two. That said, it looks alright on if you don't get too close!

It seems to be the knock off of this dress: https://uk.sandro-paris.com/en/p/short-tweed-dress/3607171727377.html?utmsource=google&utmmmedium=cpc&utmcampaign=blk-uk-shopping-femme&utmmterm=&utmgroup=156716120595&gaddsource=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAtsa9BhAKEiwAUZAszQyAM8xIc8S2yS4OPyDEGIIPXOmpvf7rUylsZpkX4e5JZv5W6PpYjBoCJ3cQAvDBwE

That's quite shocking. The Sandro dress is a cotton and viscose mix and lined. What a rip off of their idea.

Thanks. I always thought they were cheap quality from the pictures ( my mate raves about them on FB and won't have it that they're a bit rubbish)

ValentineValentineV · 16/02/2025 22:02

Totally wearable for the lunch.

ZaZathecat · 17/02/2025 08:31

I like the style but would go for a lighter colour, something like one of these (New Look and River Island)

This ‘bee’ dress was the one I particularly had in mind based on your OP: https://www.mywardrobehq.com/coco-fennell/bee-dress/P7841?srsltid=AfmBOopSeFiQfMTHu6QLlCUkCFfyjFUfXyVtHLPH_UHtNwSueprQ6b-D

Looks like there are some on eBay and Vinted Smile

BlueRaspberry7 · 17/02/2025 10:47

@PlumpAndDeliciousFatcat thankyou! yes that one is on Vinted in my side, it's very cute

Arrivederla · 17/02/2025 10:47

The original dress is pretty awful imho. Cider clothes are poor quality and the company's products are considered to be very environmentally unfriendly.

Although to be fair I guess you could say that about all fast fashion.

bodydrain · 17/02/2025 17:05

It’s cute. I like it.

AngelaMerkin1 · 16/02/2025 15:36

What about this OP, very similar but with a bit more colour

www.monsoon.co.uk/dion-lace-collar-jersey-dress-black-10016580001.html

Ooh that is a lovely dress

Perseimmion · 18/02/2025 05:24

You will look like a waitress rather than a guest.

Me too - don’t like any of the alternatives, especially the Boden, yikes!

I think it's gorgeous!

Agreed.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 18/02/2025 12:36

Sorry OP, I'm not keen. But I don't like that sort of style anyway. And it's definitely got waiting staff vibes.

BlueRaspberry7 · 18/02/2025 14:39

It seems to be a divisive dress!

OP posts:
OneWaryCat · 18/02/2025 14:46

Personally I think if you love it, get it. It's not about anyone else and it's certainly not inappropriate for the occasion.

Oh my, the bee dress is so, so pretty!!! 🤩

That’s gorgeous. I would have chosen something similar
