Best jeans for peri menopausal belly?

Looking for inspiration, 5ft 7, busty. I usually wear a 16 skirt or XL trousers. My belly feels quite tender with jeans their days and I'm living in leggings. It feels like i should be dressing for an apple shape.

Currently wearing : wide leg or Eva m&s in 18. The wide feels like a lot of material. With both I feel like my belly is a bit strained but I think a 20 would be too big.
Any other suggestions for jeans or styles? Would barrel or mum jeans work? I live in trainers too.

How about maternity jeans with the jersey bump cover or an extender for the buttons? Try jeans with more elastic/stretch in them?

I find jeans always dig at the waist and put pressure over the stomach. I think it’s just the nature of the material.

My sister wears Halara flares now. They’re like a legging at the top, which she says is very comfortable. I love the flared look on her, rather than the wide leg too (although apparently they do wide leg too).

Do you actually have to wear jeans?

I know there have been times in my life, after surgery, say, when heavy fabric hanging from a structured waistband was torture. It would make more sense surely to switch to maybe shirt dresses in cord or denim for the rest of winter, and then look at lightweight linen trousers with a drawstring waist (if you must have trousers) over summer.

Maybe try jeggings?
I have plenty of regular jeans but I also have jeggings in skinny, bootcut and wide legged fits for when I just want the look but also want to be comfy.
(I know they arent the most fashionable but they look ok when you style them up).

I live in beyond nine trousers - perfect for a bloated stomach!

Yogachick · 07/02/2025 19:26

@henlake7 where do you get bootcut jeggings from pls?

Lentilweaver · 07/02/2025 19:29

Levis Rib cage.
They are brilliant.

Any old jeans with a hair band round the button. Can’t do the bloody things up and refuse to buy a bigger size at this point. Gone from a 10 to a now too small 14 in two years. No weight gain anywhere else, just that poxy middle bit.

Spanielsaremad · 07/02/2025 19:32

Why does your stomach feel tender? Is that not a doctor issue?

veraswaistcoat · 07/02/2025 19:34

Try the M and S Magic jeans.

@Spanielsaremad hi, no its more that I dont like that stiff feeling there but unless I buy a bigger size, I have that. Its like a bloated feeling I'd say which comes and goes. I'm liking the looser trousers look.

My friend has those Halara jeans and says they’re really comfortable. They look like regular jeans but they’re made of a stretchier softer fabric.

Loopylooni · 08/02/2025 10:51

could someone link to the halara jeans please?

M&S boyfriend jeans. They start soft and get softer, and the waist is more or less the same size as the hips, perfect on my menopausal middle.

DarlingCoffee · 08/02/2025 16:23

Abercrombie Curve Love are my new go tos

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 08/02/2025 17:48

MonkeyTennis34 · 09/02/2025 14:19

@Loopylooni
I too have the meno-belly!

M and S straight legged Magic jeans are fantastic.
Really hold me in and are quite slimming.

Loopylooni · 11/02/2025 06:24

Hi all, thanks for all the replies so I bought the m&s flared leggings which seem comfy though the darker blue was sold out. These might be the key! I did buy an 18. It does hug the belly but not uncomfortably

Ninepine

Love my Ninepine Asana straight pants, which despite the name are wide legged.
