I look crap in prints but am bored with wearing plain colours all the time - any tips?

I like some prints but when I try them on I just sort of disappear. I like deep, dark colours. I just find it impossible to dress cheerfully and am tired of plain tops and plain bottoms...

maybe you are wearing the wrong colours. i wore black for decades and it was dreadful. now i wear grey, blue, pink, red and look loads better.

I can't wear big prints near my face either. Love a print skirt though.

Shitemum · 07/05/2008 21:11

I can do prints on bottom half but there are just so many goddam ugly ones out there! Also have skinny calves and thick ankles, so knee and calf length skirts don't look good.

you just have to find the right pints for you

Shitemum · 07/05/2008 21:15

I like retro art-deco prints and ethnic african earthy colour type prints.
Which shops do you recommend?

Don't like the ugly 70's retro stuff around now. Some of it is nearly ok but then they go and mix 2 or 3 different prints on one item [boak]

I can only do subtle prints eg beige on white, or black on brown - strong contrasts eg red & white look shite on me

Tutter · 07/05/2008 21:17

i have this and like it a lot

Shitemum · 07/05/2008 21:38

That's nice tutter but too much for me. I mean too strong.
Some things look fine from far away but too busy up close.

East are doing some nice earthy/African prints atm.

I feel the same as you about deep colours but lack of cheerfulness. How about giong for varying texture instead of prints, eg interesting fabrics, embroidery, or crochet type stuff?

Shitemum · 07/05/2008 22:06

Sputnik - thanks, will have a look.
Suppose I just don't bother to buy anything nice/expensive as the DDs are still at the small, snotty, huggy stage

Well really prints ought to be your friends under those circumstances. I have a terrible problem with baby snot and black t-shirts

There's a lot of black and white prints around atm, maybe less "busy". What about this?

Shitemum · 08/05/2008 00:16

Like the cut but it's just too busy for me. Maybe there's something wrong with me

You probably think you disappear in prints because you wear plain colours all the time. jump in toots? get with some prints.
