What's your fantasy hair?

I have flat uninteresting hair with a slight wave. It is an awkward length but generally ok, bit of a muddy, dull, natural blonde.

My fantasy hair would be these pics, would love to know how to imitate it as most advice involves super defined curls with tongs, etc. I just love how natural and textured these pics are!

What's yours and could you achieve it in this lifetime?? Grin

From the animated film Brave.
But only if I could employ a personal hairdresser to sort it out for me each morning.

Tried to paste in an image but it vanished.

Have you tried mermaid hair tongs? I've managed to achieve something similar using a set on my super straight, flat hair, along with sea salt spray.

I'd love to be like one of those dolls from the 80s where you could pull the hair long then press a button and it would go short again 😂

I just get bored so easily, I'm always cutting and growing it.

GoatScapes · 03/02/2025 15:35

I also love bobs with fringes like the Dawn French style, and the 20's short bobs. Most of which work better on thick straight hair - which I have neither curly or straight, just flat :(

I also loved Jane Wymark's hair (pic) particularly in the series 'Beasts'. Fab series by the way!

Waist length, silky straight, light blond hair

I would love the textured (so called frizzy) natural hair in my OP pics. I could curl with a wand or GHD but they are smooth and artificial looking and the effect of heat makes them just drop out without a ton of hairspray.

I envy wavy hair because the rain makes it even cooler!
My friend has natural waves/light curls that frizz up a bit in rain but then look awesome later. My hair goes static-y and just wilts Sad

Wavy people always complain but they don't know how good they have it!

Edited

Use a thin tapered wand and make your structured ringlets. Stick your head upside down, ruffle and mist with spray. Flip it back, run your fingers through. Then take a very wide toothed comb and VERY gently backcomb to break some of the curl casts. It will look very natural (and BIG!)

Could this dry it out?
My hair is very fine and a bit dry so never use GHD's on it. I would worry a wand might cause damage? I do have a heat protectant but not sure if they help?

To have always wanted Gwneth’s hair when she cuts it short is Sliding Doors. I have had a similar length but my hair is fine so it just doesn’t look the same, plus I am dark and don’t suit blonde.

DappledThings · 03/02/2025 19:20

Pretty much my hair as it is now but about half as thick. My mum's been telling me for decades not to complain about it and apparently I'll be sad when it starts thinning but I'm mid 40s now and it just getting thicker. Not bothered about it greying or being sort of wavy but not really or the overall texture. I'd just like it to hang once in a while rather than forming a space helmet.

Sounds wonderful! I would so love to prefer my own!
Make the most of it and enjoy.

My wavy hair looks great when it's frosty but more like Hagrid when there is rain around or a storm on the way. During storm Éowyn I looked like I'd been out in it without even leaving the house.

Something like this would be ideal:

I have that curl pattern. Sometimes it looks that good.

SilvieBear · 03/02/2025 23:40

@PickAChew - I’d take sometimes!
If I try and curl my hair it falls out before I’ve even left the house (even with a load of hairspray). It’s as straight as a ruler. 😂

I’d love a full head of 80’s style curls tumbling down my back.

I had this 80s hair in the 80s. It began with a vicious perm, walking out of the hairdresser's with a giant bobble head of balloon-like curls 😂 It dropped over the following week, so you then got the magical tumbling locks for a month. For the next two months it continued to drop, getting drier and frizzier and more straggly no matter how many bottles of yellow Revlon Flex you lavished upon it, until your hairdresser sadly informed you another perm would kill your hair and gave you a short cut with flippy layers.

This entirely explains the evolution of 80s hairstyles! You could probably achieve the tumbling curls with today's styling gadgets, but you'd have to keep doing it.

I've just failed horribly to give myself this haircut (Natascha McElhone in Halo) and am debating whether to waste money on getting a hairdresser to save me with a decent short style or give it another go (will probably do B, then end up having to do A after all).

I want a Chrissie Hynde 1980s rock chick look. However, my hair sticks out on one side (severely) and so it will never be.

I also wouldn't mind a pixie look. But my face is very round, my hair sticks out and it's very very thick (less so since peri, but still) so I would not look good. It would have to be cut fortnightly to avoid disaster.

GoatScapes · 04/02/2025 01:49

I like the idea of a vicious perm..

I'd love super thick straight peroxide blonde hair

Curls would be good, but they look like a lot of work

Basically I just crave volume tbh

Jacquette · 04/02/2025 02:50

My hair in a pony tail is now as thin as my little finger. At this point I’d just like to hang onto the hair I’ve got.

Any that's not thin. And doesn't frizz at the first sign of moisture in the air please
