i always do mine up for a do

going to one on saturday

set hair in velcro rollers first, then a bit of combing and spraying then a kind of unstructured pleat with bits sticking out at the top and hair swept across at the front so not too severe

up aas lulu describes is fine - I also do a low chignon in a kind of j-lo stylee

up in elaborate loops is bad

cut & blowdry will always look good though

I'd go for cut and blow dry if doing it up would be a stretch (would probably start coming down before the night comes to and end).
And, imho, there are far too many women with hair up at black tie dos.
