Boden virgin here - how do their sizes come up?

Title says it all really, never bought anything from there before and only succumbing now because Johnny has threatened to stop sending me their catalogue (actually I think they have stopped already!) if I don't use his £10 off voucher. Am dithering between a cardi and jacket, am normally a size 14, do I buy my normal size?

oh annh - I got the same letter this morning!

Will watch with interest.

NotQuiteCockney · 07/05/2008 12:54

They come up big, ime. Like M+S big.

They come up shapeless and frumpy and deeply unsexy in my experience

melpomene · 07/05/2008 13:19

IME the tops are usually about normal size, but I've had a couple of tops that were on the small side. I'm usually 10 but in one style (long-sleeved T shirt) I needed a 14! Also some of the jersey tops are quite short.

The website description gives full garment measurements so you can measure one of your existing tops that fits you well, and do a comparison. Alternatively if you are going to get free returns, just order 2 sizes if you can afford to do so, and then return the one you don't want.

I have never bought anything from adult Boden that is in any way flattering. They are not cut well at all.

Children's Boden is the only part of the shop worth looking at. There stuff is very cute (but comes up HUGE).

Gobbledigook · 07/05/2008 13:24

'I have never bought anything from adult Boden that is in any way flattering. They are not cut well at all.'

OMG I completely disagree - I have several fantastically fitting dresses from Boden that I ALWAYS get comments about. A couple of tops - ditto, a cord tailored jacket - ditto.

Yes, there's a lot of guff in there as well but I've got some stuff that is really well cut and really, really flattering.

I'd say the clothes are average to big re: sizes - I'm an 8-10 but everything I buy from there is a size 8.

Gobbledigook · 07/05/2008 13:25

Agree kids clothes come up huge.

But, batters, you'd look gorgeous in anything my dear [creepy back-peddle emoticon]

silverfrog · 07/05/2008 13:28

I always find these threads quite funny - it just highlights how people's perceptions differ. eg some people find the children's clothes huge, whereas I've always thought they were on the small side (dd1 is 3, and wears 5-6 for some stuff. She is tall, but not that big for her age)

Thank you all! Have just spent a fruitless half-hour on the Boden site, the only dress I liked has a 10-week wait in my size and having identified a cardi and jacket which I liked, it turns out that the jacket is a sale item so must be ordered separately and I will have to pay for postage on that. Irritatingly, you don't seem to be able to see until after you have entered yor credit card details and confirmed your order if any money-off codes have been accepted? Now I remember why I never shopped with Boden anyway!

I'm sat here in my new boden skirt - got loads of good comments at school drop off this morning! I find sizes are about right, but if you can get free P&P then order 2 diff sizes, or exchanges are free P&P anyway.

Gobbledigook · 07/05/2008 14:20

YOu put teh code in on the first page and it automatically knocks off the discount so you can see the real price - I know because I only ordered stuff yesterday.

Must admit - the dresses this year are really disappointing.

lilolilmanchester · 08/05/2008 22:41

another Boden virgin here, put off ordering by mixed reports on a thread I started. However, saw someone on the train today wearing this but in red palm leaf (which I couldn't decide about from the catalogue - but it looked fab in RL). Anyone on here got it? I want something like that for work, but would like to know what the quality is like (didn't like to ask the woman on the train!)

colander · 09/05/2008 23:47

I haven't got that dress (but it does look lovely!), but all the stuff I have had from boden has been really good quality. It washes well too.

lilolilmanchester · 09/05/2008 23:57

thanks colander, might just order it and see

Niecie · 09/05/2008 23:58

I have the opposit experience to some and find the tops OK but the bottoms on the small side... or maybe it is just that my bottom is on the big side.

I have been eyeing up that dress too, for a family party. Quite reasonably priced for a Boden dress too. Not sure about long sleeves in June though - I might boil.
