Wearing a dress similar to this on a night out:

I don’t go out much anymore and have no clue what to wear on my feet. I really hate the boots the model is wearing in the photos. My go-to is chunky black ankle boots and black tights but is that just super mumsy?

No, if anything I think chunky black boots & tights would look better than that, more up to date. It's a good look.

I agree with the pp, I'd wear chunky boots. I think the modelled outfit though has leather overkill, so I'd choose different accessories. But a pointy toed kitten heel with sheer tights would look amazing.

I’ve got a very similar one from new look 😀 and wore mine with block heeled ankle boots. I haven’t wore it with tights yet just fake tanned my legs as the one time i’ve wore it so far was christmas day, so mostly inside. I did get a lot of compliments on how good it looked with the boots

Definitely a chunky shoe or boot. Stiletto heel shoes look incredibly dated and try hard.

SnidelyWhiplash · 29/01/2025 07:41

I think chunky boots would look much nicer than those dated boots the model is wearing.

Well, if we're being fashion-forward about footwear, slim and pointy is the way to go. Chunky is still fine but not the fashion statement it was.

Personally, I like the pointy look and have got some comfortable flats and ankle boots, but only wear them in summer or for going out-out. Otherwise it's chunky style and comfort over fashion every time!

Laughing at PPs speaking with such authority on what is 'dated' - knee high boots are on trend right now, as are pointed toes. Also those are more kitten heels than stiletto. With a midi dress like that knee high boots can look better as it lengthens the leg.

OP if you really hate those boots it's styled with then yes, tights and chunky (flat!) ankle boots would work. I would go sheer tights over opaques to minimise mumsiness (no shade on opaques, it just depends on the outfit).

Bless MN, it’s always 25 years behind the times.

Ah just go chunky boots and tights- life's too short to be uncomfortable on a night out! I'm careering towards 40 and I've decided that my time in heels and bare legs has very much come to an end (or at least until Henry Cavil decides to give me a ring, then I'll consider it) 😂
