Where to get independent skincare advice?

I'd like to do a bit of an overhaul of my skincare routine but wondering where is a good place to get independent advice? I'd like to see someone in person who could recommend some products (or types of products) but who isn't promoting just one brand. Would this be a dermatologist or is it a service that any retailers like Space NK or department stores do?

I had an appointment with a dermatologist recently, who gave a recommendation list of treatments and creams, some they sold in the clinic, but others they didn't so it didn't feel too pushy. I went about scarring, but they had appts for just kind of general stuff too.

There's nothing like a derm. A consultation is worth it if you can afford to privately. Only they can accurately tell you whether your skin concern is best treated topically or procedural.

Online dermatologists like Monderma, Skin+Me and co are a quick win for undereye shadown/sun spot removal using tretinoin and hydroquinone. But in the long run you're better off seeking one-on-one advice. Nothing beats it, no matter what they say online.

I personally wouldn't bother with department stores and retailers. They're sales people, not skincare experts. They will have you on all sorts. There was a similar thread about this recently. Do your research and stick to 2-3 high quality products.

If you can afford to see a dermatologist, I recommend getting a facial and micro needling every 3-4 months to enhance an already effective skincare routine.

Thank you both, that's really helpful!
Dermatologist sounds like the way to go
