Hi,

I've been looking for tops for work and have come across Roman - is it any good? It looks a bit like New Look for grown ups?

I love Roman! Great fit, good quality and great with returns.

totk · 25/01/2025 16:16

I really like their stretch trousers.

Ellmau · 25/01/2025 16:19

Yes, I like Roman. They fit well and flatteringly but aren't too expensive.

Do you remember a few years ago there was an internet sensation over a dress that was either blue and white or black and gold depending on your eyes? That was one of theirs.

FictionalCharacter · 25/01/2025 16:20

Everything I’ve bought from them has been good.

GingerLiberalFeminist · 25/01/2025 16:22

80% lovely stuff, the tailoring is great and their cropped trousers are my summer mainstay. However I've bought stuff which frankly looks a bit cheap - a "stretch" black dress which was polyester, and a vest top. Both could have come from Primani! So do pick and choose!

Elllaa · 25/01/2025 16:26

I have a short torso and found them a bad fit. I think Tu and marks and spncer are better quality. Roman to me is like Asda or Matalan quality

Dryerjanuary · 25/01/2025 16:28

Very nylon/polyester stuff. Not keen myself

user2848502016 · 25/01/2025 16:30

Fit and styles are good but I've had some things in a horrible cheap fabric. Just worth checking what the fabric is before ordering

roselilylavender · 25/01/2025 16:34

I find it hit & miss. 80% of it is fine for my day to day life (smartish office & mainly ferrying DC or meeting local mums for a coffee) and I had one dress from their which was perfect for a posh party. The other 20% has been really cheap and nasty looking. The sort of material that you break out in hives in just by looking at it.

BashfulClam · 25/01/2025 16:35

i like their stretchy trousers and o got a lovely oversized cardigan from them.

Ok so hit and miss. I don't mind some more plastic stuff it lasts longer for work

Ok good to know thanks. I might give it a go and expect to return

Oh! Was it!

Yes it looks like it will fit well for my style. Loose

They're Ok, agree with pp that they're on a par with Asda, Matalan, Primark. Had a real issue with an online return once, so have never bought from them again.

Bignanna · 25/01/2025 16:57

I’ve bought a lot from them, they’re good value, generous in size, and I’ve never had a problem with them. I think they’re better made than Primark and there is a good choice of special occasion dresses.

Crazykefir · 25/01/2025 17:01

I think it's very hit and miss. Returns are good. Like a cheap next.

Birdbox181 · 25/01/2025 17:02

I bought the most gorgeous maxi shirt dress from there last year. So flattering, with pockets and lovely fabric. I've since bought it in 2 more colour ways as I get compliments every time i wear it. Got my eye on the pink one they've just released too.

CharlotteCChapel · 25/01/2025 17:06

They're decent quality for the price paid, definitely better than Primark.

Silverstar2 · 25/01/2025 17:08

Their petite range is excellent. So is their knitwear.

WWHRD · 25/01/2025 17:12

Basically M&Co.

Definitely have the occasional gem, but watch out for a lot of cheap synthetic lookalikes of better quality brands. They are very good at marketing their collections, so the photos often suggest better/fit and quality than reality.

mitogoshigg · 25/01/2025 17:22

Good for the price point. I've used them a few times for formal wear I'm not likely to wear much eg the black dress I use for funerals (occupational hazard) as opposed to day to day wear I need to wash over and over again. For work I favour seasalt

Seasidewalker · 25/01/2025 17:47

As others have said the quality and sizing can be hit and miss. I'm mainly a 14 but with Roman I've got size 10's to 14's, I usually have to order two sizes but it is now £3 per order to return so think about ordering multiple sizes in one order. You can exchange FOC for a different size but I've never found it very successful.

I used to buy a lot from them but the last couple of years sizing, quality and quality control have got much worse.

As pp have said crops (both begaline in a million colours and denim) are good, I've had some lovely dresses, I do mainly have to go for a 14 in petite as the fitted dresses are more generous.
