What to wear with silver jeans?

I've recently lost weight and gone from size 20 to 14/16 depending on the shop.
I have a 50th birthday party to go to at the weekend and struggling with what to wear. I love my silver jeans so I'm afraid that's a non negotiable, I understand they won't be everyone's style.
In the past I would wear a black oversize boxy shirt but I'm wondering now if that's a bit boring, not good for my new size?
I would very much hide in big black clothes, with the occasional skinny jeans as my legs weren't too bad.
I'm very much not a dressing up person and on the rock aesthetic style of clothing. In the past for a night out clubbing I would team the jeans with a band T shirt but I think I need to be dressier than that for the party.
I have included a pic of the jeans and a shirt I've seen that I would normally go for but any fresh ideas would be welcome.

Long sleeved low back black swing top?

evilharpy · 20/01/2025 21:17

What kind of party? How fancy?

What sort of cut are the jeans?

Maybe a black Shell type top. Or I have a lovely black batwing top from & Other Stories with a subtle silver fleck going through it, something like that would be lovely.

evilharpy · 20/01/2025 21:18

Sorry I missed the photo of the jeans! I'd go for a fancier top I think.

Daisypod · 20/01/2025 21:19

Can't do a low back as I need a decent bra I'm afraid

@evilharpy did you buy that top recently? I've never heard of that shop so I'll check them out

Would you wear something glittery? There are some really good tops here - many reduced to bargain prices:

What kind of fit are the jeans, loose, tight? If they're looser fit, would you do light coloured light jumper with some big jewellery (maybe blazer if fancier place)

BasiliskStare · 20/01/2025 21:34

What about a lovely silk white shirt earrings / jewellery of you choice and nice shoes. - could look quite glamorous

A few years ago sorry! They do have nice things though.

Daisypod · 20/01/2025 22:01

I'm worried something glittery might be too much with the silver?
Also I can't wear white/pale colours, I'm dreadfully clumsy and they will end up marked within an hour!

Bright red (thin) jumper? (Unless that feels too Christmas)
I like mixing casual and smarter/ dressier items, I wouldn't also put glittery with silver to make it look more modern

minipie · 20/01/2025 23:15

this and some chunky silver jewellery would look good

CharlotteCChapel · 20/01/2025 23:25

I recently saw someone wearing it with a black long sleeve t-shirt, white heels and a white fluffy jacket. It looked stunning.

blackandwhitefur · 20/01/2025 23:39

Definately a black loose top. Will look very stylish that way.

GhastlyGoodTaste · 21/01/2025 02:22

At first I wondered how you’d never heard of & Other Stories, @Daisypod - but then remembered there must be loads of places you weren’t able to consider before. Great to have the adventure of new shops to try.

I must say the thought of silver jeans and black top at this time of year is quite depressing. (Feels like the leftovers from Christmas / NY parties.) Would you be willing to consider something else?

& Other Stories shows this cashmere jumper wonderfully styled with grey jeans, which gives an idea of how that colour would look with your metallic jeans. Annoyingly they don’t currently have all sizes in stock - but they do have this top and this
Tie neck top which would be worth considering.

Alternatively, American Vintage have jumpers in any colour you like.

Different idea - Zara has this amazing cape top with silver buckles which would be suitably dramatic with your jeans.

Daisypod · 21/01/2025 15:24

Oh @minipie I like that! I do have silver jewellery to wear.
I'm sure there will be dancing so I don't think a jumper would work.

Much like I'd style a silver sequin skirt, I'd wear it with any one of the following;

Grey cashmere sweater. In your instance, as you'll be dancing, so sleeveless
Grey sweatshirt (which I'd dress up with jewellery and a fancy belt)
White, denim or chambray blouse/other top

It's also worth considering that blue looks great with silver, all the shades from the palest to ink. Personally, I'd not wear black.

If you have any turquoise, jade or lapis jewellery, that will look great, as will silver and/or gold. I know many won't mix metals but when done well, it can look really chic.

Also, much of the above hinges on what shoes are you wearing? Will you be wearing a belt? So many variables.

Happy dressing and more importantly, happy 50!

Daisypod · 21/01/2025 18:12

Thanks @bunnybunnybunnybunny but not my 50th, it's a friends. No belt and I've no idea about shoes yet! I normally wear doc martens!

@Daisypod Apologies, my comprehension at times is not good, but, clothes, I still understand.

Some make a big thing of silver as being a tricky colour to match it isn't, more so if you treat it as grey. That's a good way to think about it when working out what to wear with it. Regrettably, haven't worn DMs since my teens, so can't comment on them. But, they are comfortable and if you're going to be dancing, that's the most important thing!

If I am looking for inspiration, I look at pinterest. So in this instance, I'd look for for 'silver trousers outfit' and then do the same for 'grey trouser outfit'. This will not only give lots of more ideas, but probably colour combinations you've not thought of.

As I have said in other threads, I love putting together an outfit.
