Fix hot roots at home? Orange roots after diy lighting

I am naturally soft black and had old permanent jet black box dye that I let grow out for a couple of years on the ends.

On Friday I dyed hair with dark blonde level 7. I left it in my hair for 55 minutes covered in a plastic bag.

Result was bright coppery orange roots and dark brown from ears below.

Last night Sunday I used Matrix Brass Off blue mask and it really calmed the roots down but it's still very brassy and obviously lighter than the rest of my hair.

i really don't want to dye it black as I'm getting more greys and want to be a lighter brunette to blend the greys in the future.

To darken my brassy roots and blend with rest of dark brown hair at home, Do I:

A. Use colourb4 allover then a semi dye in ash brown

B. Or directly put semi dye in ash brown on roots only

C. Something else? Other than go to hairdressers 😅 !!

Thank you

Is there a reason you're avoiding the hairdressers? It may seem more expensive but you're going to end up spending a fortune of various, strippers, bleaches, dyes etc. And it could all end up a mess.

You'll need to strip the box dye out and it doesn't always lift on the first attempt. You'll then need to wait a few days then lighten your hair with bleach before applying any colour. It's anyone guess how it will lift as it can be unpredictable when you've used box dye and your natural hair will lift differently to your feed hair. It could end up very patchy.

When you go to dye it you'll need to make sure you have the right balance of ashy and red tones or you could end up with green hair or brassy hair.

It's a complicated job and you're probably better off just biting the bullet and going to a hairdresser.
