Would you help me style this skirt please?

On me, it looks similarl-ish to the model, except I am not as slim and I'm middle aged. For reference, I am short, about 5.2", and size 8/10. So what I mean by similar is that it's kind of low on the waist and it reaches my knees. I have knee-boots and combat-style ankle lace-ups and chelseas.
I've had it since November and I just don't know how to wear it!

Looks like school uniform to me! 😅

I'd go slouchy jumper and longer combat boots. I think you want some between ankle and knee length.

I can imagine Claudia Winkleman rocking this I. A stylish but grungy way.

But I'm not fashionista.. don't listen to me Grin

Love that skirt! Can you take some pics with the different footwear?

Rocknrollstar · 19/01/2025 09:55

Definitely a slouchy jumper and clumpy boots.

MsWintertowne · 19/01/2025 09:58

I have a kilt with those proportions and am a similar size and shape to you. Over winter I’m wearing mine with knee high boots and a Shetland sweater, under a big tweed coat.

Last summer I tried it with flat t bar shoes but it looked far too school uniform, so I settled on clumpy ankle boots. I’ll experiment more in the spring.

Thanks all. I like the sound of clumpy boots and a slouchy jumper. My problem might be that because I'm short I might end up looking like a sack of potatoes if my waist is not defined. Would you link me to specific jumpers that you think might work?

Do you not think trying to define your waist would be missing the point of this type of skirt?

Mine is from here, no longer available but a similar shape to this one. Scroll through styling photos (though you don’t have to copy the shoes!).

This jumper s on the same site and could work.

I think avoid white shirts as that will make it look like uniform.

You could also do a black top with a longline cardigan and belt. I'd make the belt chunky to go with the boots.

Malakai Long Sleeve Top in Lace Ivory

Lace detailed Malakai top. Featuring a boat neckline and long oversized sleeves. Detailed with a floral pattern and asymmetric two tiered hemline.

Was just looking at this and thought of you, @LessIceCreamOnThatToffeeSauce - less ambitious price wise and pure cotton so would be gorgeous in summer. Also like their styling:

Thanks @MsWintertowne. At this point I'll be happy to know how to style the one I have!

That length and style won't do anything to help your heigh tbh, I say this as a fellow shorty. Embrace it and wear the slouchy jumper or I guess wear something tight or with a belt

LessIceCreamOnThatToffeeSauce · 20/01/2025 12:22

Just can't make it work with a slouchy top so I have taken the skirt to alterations to be taken up so it sits on my actually knee instead of below. I'll try to wear it with a belt although it doesn't have belt loops - will that be weird?
