I posted the other day
Naturally dark ,have been bleaching hair for a while
It's led to breakage and thinning
Anyway today I stuck a brown box dye on and now I'm not sure if I've made a mistake and should of stuck to the blonde
Does this look okay ?
Have I made a mistake here ?
1st pic is obviously before
2nd is now

It looks fine OP and it will be feeling much healthier before you know it.

It’s such a big shock and panic isn’t it because it’s so different. I am in the same position as you and swing between relief and regret.

EternalSunshine19 · 18/01/2025 16:53

The brown looks a lot nice and healthier. The blonde looked a lot like straw, very dry and brittle.

tvoffpleases · 18/01/2025 16:54

I know if I continued bleaching my hair would just snap everywhere
I'm so dark my hair just can't deal with it
It's a massive shock

I think you're lucky as both colours suit your skin tone.

tvoffpleases · 18/01/2025 16:58

A few washes it will probably settle a bit as well won't it
I'm deffo fake tanning tonight ha ha

The darker is really lovely OP

JoannaGroats · 18/01/2025 17:06

I think it’s just the shock of the initial change. It’s a nice colour.

iamnotalemon · 18/01/2025 17:09

I really like it, it looks great. Now just leave it alone and restore the condition x

tvoffpleases · 18/01/2025 17:20

Stupid question but once it needs dying again am I okay using a flat brown ?
Rather than something with red in ?

I love the colour! What box dye did you use, do you remember? I love it

diddl · 18/01/2025 17:26

Looks much better imo.

Rowlinginthedeepanddeeper · 18/01/2025 17:30

You can always use a red toner beforehand, but that's overkill, I think. A reddish base under any brown will look more natural and last longer than an ash tone, since bleaching removes all the red/orange, leaving it super porous.

I'd really focus on deep conditioning and maybe use a hair oil to boost the color and make it glossy and smooth.

tvoffpleases · 18/01/2025 17:33

I used garnier 5.25
In a ideal world I would of liked just a chocolate brown but I know that I needed some red back in
Thankyou that's a good idea rather than a dye
Feel a bit silly for getting so worked up over hair
I know it's only hair and it grows etc

Rowlinginthedeepanddeeper · 18/01/2025 17:42

You can always do it in reverse. Use the red-based permanent, then put a cooler toner over the top—win-win! No green tones, plus super shine from a conditioning toner.

The brown looks much much better.

Youtookmyhandle · 18/01/2025 17:45

Looks much better. Just continue to use product that strengthens and conditions.

lindyloo57 · 18/01/2025 17:45

It looks lovely, looks in good condition, as I said before I'm a lot darker after years of bleach highlights, which do take a while to get used to, thats why I still put a few in along the top now and again, I keep reading as you get older you should go lighter but I've gone the other way, thinking its my natural colour so the darker colour should suit me.

HikingforScenery · 18/01/2025 17:46

The second colour is so much better.

Strawberriesandscream101 · 18/01/2025 17:47

Watch the blowout professor on YouTube he gives excellent advice on how to keep hair healthy preventing breakage.

Hazeby · 18/01/2025 17:49

It’s a lovely colour but equally as good, it makes your hair look much healthier.

Thisinfuriatingplace · 18/01/2025 17:53

your hair looks absolutely gorgeous darker op

Olika · 18/01/2025 17:54

Really like your new colour.

shinebrightlikeanemerald · 18/01/2025 18:26

Looks so much better brown the other picture looks a bit green.

I would go to a hairdresser to get some low lights and blend it all in together now. A good cut too will help.

Soccermumamir · 18/01/2025 19:19

I prefer the brown. It looks healthier and shinier already 🙂 Once the shock wears off I think you'll enjoy it more

BlondeAmbitions · 18/01/2025 22:17

Darker coloured hair is known to hide hair imperfections and being more forgiving than light colours.

It looks nice! Pretty cinnamon colour.
