I feel like I have (for me) finally achieved exactly the look I want in my make up routine, many years of swapping things in and out and trying new things. I love make up and always love a thread from fellow enthusiasts on here. I've listed mine below, if you don't mind indulging me, if you were doing your make up right now for the day, what are you using?

Foundation- Dior forever skin glow
Concealer - it cosmetics bye bye undereye
Powder - Laura Mercier translucent loose glow
Contour - too faced chocolate soleil bronzer
Blush - benefit shellie
Brows - refy brow pencil
Eyes - laura mercier caviar stick (or mostly just a tiny bit of bronzer day to day)
Mascara - L'Oréal telescopic extra black
Lip pencil - Steve laurant
Lip gloss - Steve laurant orchid lip oil
Setting spray - pixi glow mist (not really a setting spray, just a thing I like to spray on top to pull everything together)

I stand by every product on this list as a total winner 🏆

Nothing as glam as above:

Clinique foundation
No 7 highlighter
No 7 concealer
Cli ique chubby stick blusher
No 7 translucent loose powder
No 7 pressed powder compact
Lancome Hypnose Mascara
Lancome lipsticks x 2
Clarins lipstick x 1
Estee lipstick x 1 (nearly finished)
Many more lipsticks on my desk at work and across handbags
(I may have enough lipstick to last for 10 to 15 years)
Lancome eyebrow pencil
Various eyeliner pencils that are used once a flood

I spend about three minutes putting on my make-up

Parker231 · 18/01/2025 12:27

Moulton Brown orange and bergamot hand cream
Dior lipglow
spf moisturiser

Rarely use/wear any makeup

I've heard so much about Clinique Black Honey, think it might be my payday treat purchase this month.

Since the pandemic I have massively trimmed back my makeup bag contents.

Foundation: NARs
Concealer: Bobbi Brown
Corrector: Bobbi Brown
Eyebrow Pencil: whatever is available in the right colour
Mascara: Benefit
1 x Eyeshadow stick and 1 x eyeshadow pallet...
Cream blusher... again whatever is in the right colour.
Pixi lip gloss

I just don't wear enough make up these days to faff with lots of different colours and tend to be fairly neutral.

KayBee27 · 18/01/2025 12:36

I dont wear foundation, but use:
Guerlain bronzer (Amazing!)
Mac blusher
Mac Matte lipstick
Mac lip liner
Mally mascara and eyeliner
Ultrasun 50+ sunscreen ☺️

I have too much stuff but my current faves are

Dior Skin Glow Foundation have been using this since last summer so there can't be much left in it - would repurchase.
Hourglass Dragon Palette this has bronzer, highlighter, blush and finishing powder in one compact. Easy to use and travel with and a time saver. I sometimes use other blushes as I prefer a cream or liquid blush if not pushed for time.
Fwee Pudding Pot in shade My this is a viral k beauty brand and I love them. I have two but use this shade the most. It doubles up for cheek and lips and is a lovely everyday wearable shade. Used on the lips it creates a bit of a 'no make up look' and sometimes I use a bit of lip gloss on top.
Pat McGrath Fetish Eyes Mascara got this in an advent calendar and really like it. Makes my rubbish lashes look great and doesn't smudge.
Natasha Denona Mini Rose Palette ND is probably the nicest eyeshadow formula I've tried. I don't wear eyeshadow all the time but I love the colours of this one and it's a compact size.
Victoria Beckham eye pencil and brow pencil love both these products from VB. I have two eye pencils but only really use the brown one. The brow pencil is a great shade match for me and does a good job filling in my patchy brows.
Summer Fridays lip oils I have 3 shades and use them all fairly regularly. I find most lipsticks quite drying and a bit full on these days so prefer an oil or tint. They last quite well but obviously need reapplying more often than a lipstick.

I have other make up items I dip in and out of and enjoy too but if I had to curate a small collection I was happy with for most occasions I'd pick the above.

The L'Oréal Mascara is the only thing I'd consider changing in my current set up, it's certainly the best one I've tried to date but when it's been on a long time it's starts transferring onto my brow bone. I've heard nothing but good things about Pat McGrath products so I might give the Mascara a whirl when I need a new one.

I've tried so hard with my VB liner but I'm just not getting it right and it always looks too heavy on me. I think I need to search out some tutorials to see where I'm going wrong.

Enjoying following this. I used to love make up but it seems to be making me look older now I'm in my 40s.

I really struggle with congestion on my chin and almost every BB, CC or foundation makes me break out but for work I do like to have some base, just to look more professional.

Can any of you experts on this thread tell me a light base that doesn't cause breakouts that still works on mature skin?

Plantmumfailure · 18/01/2025 15:37

I use:

CC cream - erborian
Foundation - Estee Lauder Double Wear
Concealer - Elf
Benefit benetint
Cream blush in a peachy colour (don't know brand, but not fancy)
NYX fixing powder
Benefit bronzer (can't remember the name but it comes in a little duo with a blusher that I don't really use)
Revolution highlighter/shiny blush stuff
Eyeshadow palette - can't remember!
Brown eyeliner - also can't remember
Nyx eyebrow pencil
Revolution glow fix spray
Elf lip liner and lipstick

I'm not fussy about much of it tbh, but the double wear is fairly non negotiable

I've never been very good at eye liner and don't have an eye shape that lends itself to beautiful and dramatic liner looks so the VB pencil is the first time I've bothered with one in a long time.

I tend to go in lightly under the eye and smudge out. I don't try to tight line or do flicks anymore. I could probably get a similar effect just using eyeshadow but I like how easily the pencil glides. Weirdly I find the green pencil doesn't glide as nicely which is one of the reasons I tend not to reach for it.

BrightWolf · 18/01/2025 15:41

Oh I love this thread.
I use Estée Lauder double wear foundation (love it, great coverage but not cakey)
YSL touché eclat
NYX wonder contour stick
Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood flawless filter (described as a primer, highlighter and skin tint all in one, I use it as a highlighter and love it)
Ciate setting powder (had this as a free gift recently when I bought something else from them and really like it)
Ciate bronzer (it’s good but not amazing, on the lookout for a new bronzer so will read through for recommendations)
Ciate blusher in so sweet (love!)
eyebrow pencil by ELF (amazing and only £3!)
Iconic triple threat mascara (best mascara I’ve ever used)
Charlotte Tilbury pillow talk lip liner
Charlotte Tilbury pillow talk lip blur

I'm 48 and still just use foundation but I do find a good primer makes a difference (forgot to add that to my list above). At the moment my favourite is YSL Blurring Primer but I also find the Elf Pore Putty Primer a decent budget option. If I don't keep my skin very hydrated I find any base can look at bit crap.

A lot of mature people rave about the Jones Road Miracle Balm as a tinted base but I'm yet to try it.

It's the green one that I have! I've stopped tying to get a line and instead I've been doing little dots then smudging them together on the outer half of my top lid close to the lash line. I'll give your method a go.

Spf lrp (perfect)
primer glossier (also perfect!)
foundation rimmel perfect match
mac spray fx prep and prime (adore!)
glossier mascara (fab for sensitive eyes, and understated though doesn’t last more than a few hours on)
rimmel oh my gloss (adore adore adore!)
max factor eyeshadow (too old needs to be changed!)
Nars creamy concealer (wow!)

Interesting. I bought both mine at the same time and was a bit put out the green one didn't feel quite the same consistency. My eye skin is a little loose these days so I can't be doing with anything that drags - which to be honest is most liners!

Moier · 18/01/2025 15:52

I don't have a makeup bag..l have a full drawer.. far too many to list
All in compartments for lips/ face/ etc.
I love
Charlotte Tilbury.
Dior.
No7
Bobbi Brown.

But also have Rimmel and Max Factor etc.

This is exactly the problem i have with it. My eye skin is starting to get slightly crepey and when I try to get a line it can fold over itself because of the drag, meaning I either get gaps or the line isn't straight (or both). I either have to pull the skin tight to stop it folding meaning it's hard the judge where I'm putting it and it too heavy when the skin is relaxed again, or I have to do the dot and smudge method.

This conversation has been really illuminating thank you! Maybe I'm not the problem, it's just such a beautiful colour, i really want to make it work.

Cheeks:
Hourglass Ambient Pallette in Evil Eye

I need a good bronzer for fair neutral/cool skin if anyone has any recommendations 🙏

ViciousCurrentBun · 18/01/2025 17:01

Foundation
Cheek colour stick
2 lipsticks
mascara
Under eye roll on serum
Eye shadow palette, about 10 colours/shades

All of it is Clinique.

Deathraystare · 18/01/2025 17:08

I am certainly finding less is more as I age. I do a dark brown eyeliner and then mascara and a lipstick. I don't normally bother with blusher unless I am going out. I do like a cc and have a few Erborian ones and also the Garnier SPF 50 with a tinted glow. Various lipsticks and mascara.

unfold1 · 18/01/2025 17:11

under eye corrector (I have dark circles) - ELF putty under eye corrector
Concealer - Nyx bare with me serum concealer (fav concealer - hydrating and lightweight)
Mascara - Loreal telescopic
Eyeliner - I like a brown pencil eyeliner for softer flattering look. Any drugstore one is fine, currently using one from Rimmel
Bronzer - Nars bronzing cream and Physicians formula matte monoi bronzer
Setting powder - Rimmel stay matte is my fav pressed powder. Wet n Wild photo focus loose powder is my fav finely milled loose powder.

I have oily skin and find I look better with no foundation, just concealer and loose powder to manage oiliness and blur texture/pores.
I don’t bother with eyeshadow anymore as I find bronzer in crease is the most flattering and easy look.
